Any Leaking exhaust before the wide band O2 will throw off the reading.
Your 176 mph long hot pull was possibly the beginning to the end …..
With the stock box the fuel trims were spot on. I switched back and forth multiple times and the stock box was always reading fine. If the exhaust leak did cause it, it started leaking bad either during the pull or just started.

And yes the 176mph hot pull may have helped speed up the process of the engine failure haha.

I’m not the one advocating the OP coat his used pistons.
I'm not certain anyone advocated coating used pistons, I said to do a ground up engine build and the more I've learned of the situation, a ground up is certainly more relevant now.

But whatever, Dude. Now we know....used pistons or not, if you have an argument against coatings, then provide a basis for it using the data you said you know is out there.

What degree crosshatch do you recommend ? Also how would you measure the bore ? Top/bottom ? Top/middle/bottom ? what about piston to wall clearance ? You just subtract the various points of the bore from the piston diameter ? Thanks.
I recommend you checked the bottom of the bore where the rings have not worn at all and see what crosshathatch it has and use that

Except I don’t have the money. The gen3 shortblock was to avoid the cost of building my gen 2 block and buying new pistons.

I get it and that part sucks....I really want to see cool videos of you firing this thing off. As a comparison, I had a '48 Harley Panhead project 30 or so years ago and it took me four years to build the engine (budget related). I hated the amount of time it took while doing it, but once I fired it up, I was happy with how impeccably solid the engine was.

This was a good running 26K mile short block before he took it apart. Bolt it back together and enjoy life.

This is my hangup, "good running" and "before he took it apart." I have lots of "good running" engines around here that I have no reason to take apart....jus sayin.

This is my question also. Why take it apart? But he did.

I was the one who took it apart. Previous owners said it ran good and the guy pulled it from his car to put in a built shortblock. I just took it apart to replace the bearings.
