Im looking to get back to track days after a year hiatus. I’m not a hotshot, but I’m a resonantly capable and experienced driver. (Spec Miata racing, endurance racing, 100’s of track hours. NASA and PCA trained instructor) I need dual purpose car and want turn key reliability for track duty.

I sold my PP2 for personal reasons that I finally got to stay cool after hood vents, aluminum radiator, extra rad ducting, remote oil cooler, trans air scoop, brake vents, and a diff cooler. It literally took all that to survive 25 minute sessions.

considering going Mach 1 for the easy button this time. (Also considering ss1LE)

Is there anyone really pounding on a Mach 1? If so is it staying cool? Not entry or intermediate drivers, but ones dancing the 95-100% load mark for extended times on super 200TW or R comps?

thank you in advance!

There are a number of individuals tracking their Mach 1 on this forum. Can't say whether they meet your qualifications. The only issue reported I have seen was in regard to differential temperature which was determined to be a mechanical issue, they are waiting for parts to arrive at the dealer, as opposed to a design issue.

I was talking Jim Owens at Laguna Seca and he said zero issues with Mach 1, he personally put 180 laps at Road Atlanta and swears the car is solid.

If SCCA gives favorable ruling for the M1 in T2 class, I'll let you know next year. I'm taking M1 HP to Road America in a few weeks to test and see if it will be competitive. I will post update and video.

That's my car, and I think it's fairly solid aside from this diff issue. They found that the cooler had a restriction, so a new cooler is on order.

Otherwise the car saw about 6hrs of track time in 90+ degree summer heat - my son drove a set of tires off of it in two days.

Once this diff issue is sorted, it should be pretty reliable.

I’m planning on running the open track day at NOLA in a couple weeks if they reopen in time (closed since Ida). Taking a trip to COTA next week to watch the MotoGP races, so that road trip should take care of my break-in miles.
I’m no pro, but I’ve tracked my previous 911, C7 Vette, and C7 Grand Sport. I run around 2:04s at NOLA.
I’ll give some feedback after I track mine.

Just ran two days in the heat (80-90 degrees) at Pittrace, 30-45 minute sessions on slicks, no issue with overheating, actual surprised how low rear diff temp stayed, although hood could use some venting to get that engine bay heat out. I did get the "exhaust mode selection not available" after first session, connector at passenger side jumper harness rubbed car frame, cut into wires, blew fuse. Didn't realize this is very common issue that Ford doesn't have a solution for, and yes harness is backordered with no eta.

Let’s see some pictures of your roof! Is that wrapped? Are you going to wait for a fix for the exhaust or tackle it yourself?

PP2 could not handle a 25 minute session? Crap. I did my base model in 20 minute sessions in Phoenix... Didn't see the cylinder head temp go above 230F and oil temp was normal. Am I just that much xof a novice?

First 200TW 305s, Gloc race pads, and a -3.5F/-2.2R alignment allow for a tremendous amount of load to be put on the car. My experience is a GTPP2 is happy all day at 80% load. Once you go 90-95%+ load is where the heat issues occur. I would hit diff temp in ~8 min. FTBR cooler fixed that. Then I was into high CHT in 10-15 min. Mishi Radiator and Race Louvers and I could run 15 min until oil temp (or just short shift at 6250rpm). Remote Oil cooler was the final fix.

that’s the reason I asked the question for those who are really wringing a Mach 1’s neck, no intent of offending anyone, just hoping for real data points

I have my order in for a fjg non-hp so I’ll be a test case. Only notable mods will be 200tw 305’s, vorshlag camber plates, bmr linear springs, and gloc r18/r12 pads.

This is good information. Thank yoy for sharing even though I am of no help to you.

I’ve only had mine a few days and just ran it down a nice curvy road for the first time yesterday (and didn’t overdo it since it’s not broken in yet AND the dealer is still sorting out a suspension fault error that appeared as I drove it off the lot right after buying it)...but this car drives and feels a lot more like the ‘19 Vette Grand Sport I had than it does my son’s ‘17 Mustang California Special. This car is tight. Can’t wait to track it.

They dug into it yesterday and found a wire disconnected from the sensor - they were having a part shipped overnight and I’m going back tomorrow or Friday for them to fix it. I got a free hat out it though. :sunglasses:
