Yes the eco-boost will get better gas mileage than the v-6 but, who is going to drive the turbocharged mill and get gas mileage? A turbo car is really hard to keep your foot out of the gas.

Mandatory 93 octane gas or the knock sensor will pull all the timing out of the ignition and kill all the performance it has, once it's warmed up to operating temperature. For me I have no choice but to get the v-6, that is if I plain to be able to drive the sports car without going broke.

Really had my mind set on that sweet little v-6 anyway, with an extra 10 large for that 5.0 liter mill. I'm sure it's worth the extra 10 large over the base models $22,210 2014 3.7L 6 speed stick shift.

I do still like the 2014 body style front end, retro 1969-70 Boss Mustang. I think Henry needed to move forward though, with the new body style as the previous model was beginning to grow long in tooth.

I know there is little love for the V6. The EB will have more HP, more torque, and better mileage. The V6 is targeted for rental fleets, has limited options, and may only be around for another year or two.

But I really like the idea of a basic, entry-level, RWD sports car. For me, 300 HP is plenty and it should have around 50/50 weight distribution, which should make it fun to drive. I don't care that I can't get a touch screen or leather seats. I have no time to get into racing, and I'm not interested in HP bragging rights (although I do love the sound of a V8). And with a price difference of ~$1,500 compared with the EB, I'll take the V6 with very little hesitation.

There was this thread: http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php/phasing-out-v6-1076.html that discussed the love, or lack thereof, for the V6. But it died back in January.

Are there posters here interested in the V6? Do you not feel the need to discuss it because it's a carryover engine? Or am I more or less alone thinking that the V6 is an appealing Mustang?
After test driving a v-6 with a stick and automatic, I fell in love with the v-6 that by the way is faster than my 1987 LX hatch back 5.0 liter Mustang. And by a good amount too. 0-60 6.3 and 1/4th mile time of 14.3 at 99 mph.

Compared to the 2014 v-6 which got 5.9 0-60 time and 14.1 @ 101 mph. With the 6 speed stick shift tranny. Motor trend got 5.1 0-60 time and 13.7 at 102 mph if I remember correctly? But that Mustang had a performance package. That had GT 5.0 liter suspension 3.31 rear gear set, and 19" black chrome machined aluminum wheels and super sticky summer only, Z rated tires.

And the v-6 package includes a GT 5.0 liter front sway bar and strut tower brace. A SVO size rear sway bar. The springs, struts, shocks are straight off the GT 5.0 liter suspension. Special brakes with hard bite disc pads plus larger disc brake rotors front and rear. You can get this performance package with either auto or stick transmission's

At a steal $1,995.00, if you order the PP with a automatic transmission the 0-60 numbers will be 5.8 seconds. Quote also from motor trend magazine
our local Ford dealer quoted me a price out the door for a v-6 with the performance package and stick shift transmission, and with my Z plain $22,318.91 Out the door.

That's still on par with a 2015 base model's MSRP/Retail and out the door would be cheaper to purchase the 2014 with the P.P. and stick shift transmission. The 2014 base model only weighs 3450 pounds curb weight, and we know the 3.7 liter is putting down 308.1 horsepower to the flywheel and 262 HP on the chassis Dynamiter.

If I spent that kid of money I would go a head and get a GT with the 5.0 liter small block

I am able to view window stickers of 2015 mustangs and it has EPA data! Links below for each model with EPA data.

Ecoboost automatic: not available

Ecoboost manual (City 22 Highway 31): http://www.inventory.ford.com/services/inventory/WindowSticker.pdf?vin=1FA6P8TH2F5301554&ref=VL

V6 manual (City 17 Highway 28): http://www.inventory.ford.com/services/inventory/WindowSticker.pdf?vin=1FA6P8AM1F5301514&ref=VL

Or this, which contain more EPA numbers.

Disappointing. The V6 get less power and worse fuel economy than in previous years.

Maybe I need to get fitted for a tinfoil hat, but I posted this in that thread.

I was assuming all along that the reasons for the EB was (1) to improve CAFE numbers in the US and (2) to make the care more marketable outside of the US. The second point is still valid, but the EPA numbers suggest the first point is not.

What if the reason for replacing the V6 with the EB is primarily cost savings? The V6s are being replaced by EB engines in other models, and so economies of scale may mean that it is now significantly less expensive for Ford to build an EB than it is to build a V6.

But the V6 has a good following and offers a good combination of power, fuel economy, and reliability, so Ford needs to justify getting rid of it. They can't say "we're getting rid of a popular engine to increase profits", so they crank up the PR machine and rumor mill and focus on needing the EB for CAFE.

I'm not saying the EB is a bad engine (I'm sure it's a great engine), but does the power and fuel economy (and premium fuel) justify the price premium when compared with the V6 before whatever was done to if for 2015? I wonder if what's happening here is just a strategy to increase profits rather than to give us the best pony car Ford has to offer.

You don`t need to get fitted with a tinfoil hat nor wear your Baseball Cap on backwards either. Regardless of the decrease in 5 H.P. Ford announced for its 2015 3.7 V6 and the one or 2 MPG Fuel Economy reduction, in "real time" I`m sure the engine will perform the same , if not better and actual gas mileage will be as good if not better then with the 2014. It will all depend on how the Car is driven. They "tweaked" the numbers to give the necessary "edge" to the EcoBoost 2.3 I4, pure and simple. If you want to upgrade from "Base" to "Premium" Trim anyway, fine. But, to pay $5,550 to $6,500 extra just to upgrade from the V6 to the EB I4, meh!

I love this new V6. 300hp & 280 torque. .. good highway mpg
I am a V6 fan too. I have no problem with the lower HP - 300 is plenty.

But I'm disappointed that an engine producing less power, in a more aerodynamic body, is giving us less fuel economy. Maybe it's really not and Ford low-balled the numbers. Or maybe Ford fiddled with things to make the V6 less efficient in order to make the EB look better. Either way, I'm disappointed to be offered less on both of those fronts.

And I'm a bit disappointed in the EB numbers. Maybe I shouldn't be in light of the numbers from the Focus, but I was hoping for more. I guess I'm a grump about a lot of things today.

Oh well. We now seem to have all of the important info. Nothing left to do but step back and consider the options.

I would have bought the V6 if it came in the premium

I'm saving up for the V8. I just think it's going to be a more unique car. 50 years model...everyone will be getting an EB so the GT will be a lot more rare and hold it's value more IMO.

Thing is, It now comes with 3.15 rear set's now, and no more 2.75 rear set's, 5 HP loss or what it will still be inherently faster with the shorter gears out back. Granted It will not out run the 2014 v-6 with the performance package.

If I do get one it will be the base model with the v-6 mill, and stick shift tranny it will come as is with everything I could ever want. Especially after what MMD did in 2011, First v-6 in to the 11ens. and it ran a 0-60 in 4.3 seconds and did the quarter mile in 11.73 at ?? can't remember the mph.

Yep sign me up I'm all in for a real sports car finally from the late "Henry Ford" bless his heart, he put America on wheels, and staged a war on car building from the other makes. That competition for a piece of the pie has got the cars where they are today,

That new Mustang is really the cat's meow In my eye's.

So sad you can't get ANY good options with the V6 now. I probably would have picked one up for driving to work.

I am thinking I won't be able to get past the Ecoboost exhaust sound if I start modding it. MBRP catback exhaust sounds sexy on the V6 and I have too many V8 cars already.

Must be nice to have all the money to purchase what ever your heart desires, Some people have it made in the shade. I may still get a 2014 v-6 with the performance package. If after test driving the 2015

It has to more than have a pretty face in order to move me to have to pay on the car for 7 years. I have a expectation of the car as it is and if it does not meet my expectations. I will have the local dealer hunt me down a 2014 6 with the performance package and stick shift tranny and that medium sand stone interior

I`m placing an order for a 2015 Mustang Convertible in "Base" V6 Trim with A/T along with the standard 050A Equipment Package with the Spare Tire being the only add on Option, period! My two biggest complaints are (no) Sirius Radio availability and no choice for the Cloth Interior, only Ebony Black, uuuggg. Did they have to kill off the much more attractive lighter "Stone" Interior too? Race Red with a Black Top I can live with, but hot, lint & dust showing Black Fabric Seats, not so much.
