Should I dump the stock t-fluid and use the Motul?
I know you didn't as me but I'd get the factory fill out, the XL-18 additive is hard on brass parts. Motul DCTF, Pentosin DCTF FFL4, Redline DCTF, Amsoil DCTF, kind of in the order

That's a good question. Is stock the Ford Motorcraft stuff in the reddish bottle? If it's still fresh/newish, perhaps let it sit for a bit while you get a feel for the clutch and shifter, trying to learn their new norms. Once you've got down that feeling of what is the "new normal," give it a flush and come see us on the track :)

3 quarts should do you plenty.

Sounds reasonable - I definitely want the new stuff before the next Roval excursion.

Thanks - I think changing it out before my next track day makes good sense. And it sounds like the Motul is the stuff to go with.

For sure, it's a classic, but don't let people push your buttons so easily. The people who write what I did in earnest do it for the same reason I did, to get a reaction.

After further debate and research I'll be trying Motul DCTF. I'll let everyone know how it feels in a few weeks.

Keep in mind that after switching fluid the improvements will continue for several hundred miles until it plateaus once the fluid works it’s way around the internal component.
For me personally the improvements plateaued around 500 miles after the fluid change.

Hi, all,

I have a 2015 Mustang GT I purchased earlier this year and it never shifted smoothly. Car as 23k miles and as of a month ago - 2k miles - I ditched the stock shifter and installed a x-spec MGW shifter with 2 quarts of Amsoil MTF + 3/4 of Amsoil *transaxle gear lube*; I'm sure the transmission had 7 year old factory fluid. Well... nontheless, the day of and after the new fluid everything was buttery smooth! Couldn't even tell it was notchy. But as time progressed and miles building up I'm noticing that it's harder to shift down low. On colder days 40-50* shifting into 2nd gear fights me (have to apply pressure until the gear sucks it in), and going back into 1st is a 50/50 chore unless I blip the throttle past 2k.

Is this normal? I don't recall my 2011 feeling like this but then again it had the 'standard' MGW and I had iirc Redline fluid.

Ken.
No, that's not normal. The Amsoil Transaxle Gear Lube (75w90) isn't even remotely close to the Ford spec in viscosity. It's more of a fluid combination for track days only, but certainly not cold weather. A lot of the early MT-82 failures were tied to Ford fluid which was too thick (also 75w90) for cold climates which is why Ford switched to thin XT-11-QDC fluid. There are thousands of early MT-82 failures partly due to the initial thick fluid Ford used (75w90), how many transmission failures is it going to take...
