My '22 Mach1 has blanks for the front grid fog lights. I use my car for tracking and was wondering, by removing these blanks, provides additional cooling? I have read it does provide extra cooling but Ford says it is not necessary. I also read that it causes more lift?
I was hoping to find blanks with a mesh to stop 'bits' flying through but cannot find any. I thought of drilling many holes through the blanks and fixing my own mesh onto the drilled blanks and reinsert them in. It just seems pointless to have round blanks in place doing nothing and additional cooling is better.
Any thoughts on this?

Ford provided the blanks to allow owners to choose between fog lights or additional cooling. Both were supposed to be made available by the aftermarket. For whatever reason nothing was ever made. I guess the demand was never there.

As far as removing them I recall a thread way back addressing that. Honestly do not remember the outcome.

Thanks for the reply Bikeman.

It's a styling element that's more subtle than real fog lights that would be too retro on this modern car, and who needs fog lights anyway. Not different from all the other fake elements on other cars like side vents, non functional grilles etc. Just for looks.

Check out what @bateto_007 did with his:

And this comment is why Ford probably left them blank. It’s called a lose, lose.

Yea. Ford failed on this one. There should have been a Ford Perfirnance offer ring for screened vents and fog lights.

Im not sure if this posted anyplace but I stumbled on it last evening. I like the look and function of this piece. The upper & lower grill are changed. The video doesnt show it on the vehicle however.

Exactly how did Ford fail? Ford Performance is a separate company. Not a single aftermarket company put out either a light kit or a cooling kit for the Mach 1. Why? I do not know. But if I had to guess the development and production costs outweighed the possible sales. Ford played this right.

777 Performance is offering two different products.

1. 2015-2017 / 2018-2023 777 Mach 1 Front Fascia
2. Mach1 GTE Lights
Note, The lights fit both the 777 & OEM fascia's.

Well they rehashed what was used on 2013-14 Boss 302, they look exactly the same.
I don't really like actual lights there and mesh looks kinda out of place to me too. I am happy with the textured lids.
People can replace it if it bothers them.

Appreciate all the comments on this one. After tracking a few times, the Coyote is damn hot and as Bikeman said, Ford allowed for both options. I have no use for fog lights, so think I'll take the blanks out. I'm with the Ford Performance guys this week for the Mach1TrackAttack so I'll get their opinion as well.

The Ford Performance School track their cars all day and have leave the blanks in without any heat issues. I went on a NASCAR shop tour and at the KBM Racing shop they had some tape on one of the winning car's front grill (Kyle Busch). During the race they add tape on the grill to reduce drag and increase downforce if the engine is running cool enough. (Now banned). It was quite the balance not to overheat the engine.
So with my question on removing the fog light blanks - since after today, I'm leaving mine on. I don't track for more than 20 min per session so I doubt my engine will ever overheat. So my blanks stay in for now.

Glad you had the chance to experience the NASCAR shops. I agree the blanks will stay in mine for the time being.
