The factory solution makes it look like something’s missing.
It's design element / homage, you don't really need the function here (even on track).
More openings = more bugs inside, more cleaning... 😁

And some motor way potato chip packets being sucked inside!

Yeah, I get that, but it just looks like they ran out of budget. I fully expect at some point to be asked ‘what goes in there ?’

This video is what got me interested in removing the covers. However mine did not come out that easily. I didn’t want to mark them all up so I decide to let them be.
I took mine how just like how they did in the video. Took a little more tension than I was comfortable with but nothing broke. Was just as careful as I could be and you could use a small cloth around the end of the screwdriver as well. Came out very easily after I got the first tab loose.

I thought there was just a huge opening back there waiting for cooling ducts for the brakes. You mean to tell me that behind the plastic is just more plastic? I feel so lied to!
Did you look at the leading edge of the front wheel wells, those fins go directly to the grill below the parking lights.

They kinda copied Boss 302 2013-2014 from previous generation here, it's not a new design element. It had only homage faux lights too.
It's subtle and not obtrusive, real lights really stand out and completely change the tone here as S197 showed as too. It's kinda too retro and especially on S550 with completely different and modern LED headlights with tri-bars. They even said they gave people choice and can put aftermarket lights there if they want.

I think if I put driving lights in the grill they would have to be smaller than the opening and somewhat mimic the headlights.

That's what I did with mine.

It's look very good I like it. I am going to take off front bumper and look at it this winter.
