So after a few months down time I replaced my driver side cams, lifters, tensioners, all 4 solenoids and all except for the phasers (bad decision). At first it started fine but came right back to a rough idle and occasional misfire. Unlike before, this was the first time it set a code and misfired.
Tore everything back down to find it still in time but replaced phasers and now it runs smooth but oddly keeps triggering P0012/P0022 which is intake cam position over-retarded. I can drive for a bit and codes disappear but come back later at no given condition. Could be idle or cruise. I'm certain timing is correct as I followed the service manual, forums and youtube. Theory is I used aftermarket NTK intake solenoids and the PCM doesn't like it or perhaps a wiring issue. Currently don't have a way to log cam sensor parameters.

Regardless, after spending nearly $3,100 I'm regretting having this car. Based on my research VCT issues are very prominent and now mine is a rabbit hole.

I may have missed it , but did you already try replacing the camshaft position sensors ? I replaced all 4 VCT solenoids with OEM's and so far 🤞 everything has been perfect . I noticed almost instantly on the first start after replacing my idle sounded so much smoother .

I didn't replace CPS yet but I did swap the intake to exhaust and tested them with backprobes with no apparent change. The same codes P0012/P0022 still threw. The intake solenoids can be the culprit in this instance based on diagnosis from the service manual, I'm just suspicious as these are the only aftermarket parts used. Logging parameters would be helpful so that'll be my next step.

The car runs fairly good now, the phasers were the cause to the rough idle/stalling. It immediately ran smoother once changed.

Although spark advance ranges from 9-20° and the idle quality goes quiet to louder based on the variance. This seems to be a different issue I'm researching on. It has done this before the rough idle/stalling with no related codes. May be a crank sensor or something else, not sure yet.

**Update**: Filled with 93 she idles much smoother and stable spark advance. I'll be getting a scanner to monitor the sensors on graphs. Hoping my timing is correct, I'd expect more than two codes if the timing were out. To note, fuel trims are leaning at 6-9.5% and afr dips to 12.5 occasionally.
