A10 PP1 vs PP2

Fords stock price hasn't moved because they aren't very smart....not building enough high profit raptors to satisfy demand ..dumb....not making enough high profit 350's dumb.. killing the ranger...dumb.... only offering a transmission in their highest performance vehicle that does NOTHING but slow the car down, extremely dumb! other options that may slow a car down offer comfort or safety a manual slows you down and you get nothing but worse gas mileage...I know people may "enjoy" it... but why on earth would you slow your cars down for?

Because making it go faster is easy. I can put a whipple on my manual and eat the auto for lunch. Put the whipple on an auto, and it's still an auto. I'm guessing you haven't had a lot of seat time with manuals.

New better than old - Except transmissions?

Isn't it amazing that about the only thing "modern" that a bunch of automotive enthusiasts don't like is automatic transmissions? Loaded premium package cars with digital dash, heated and cooled seats, dual zone climate control, fancy infotainment, high tech brakes and tires? Bring them on!!!! High tech approach to shifting? No WAY!!! Not fun. Not enough control. Not macho. I suspect most of the "manuals are better" advocates have no interest in going back to even the 1950's level of tech in cars and most other things.



Anyway, back to the regularly repeated auto vs manual opinion discussion.

FYI, I ordered 301A because I despise the new digital gauge. I don't like leather and my Recaros are completely manual.

I love the girl in this video. I think she sums up pretty well how some of us feel and what we just enjoy about driving a manual over an auto. If you don't want to watch the whole thing, start at about 3:30 and watch through at least 7:30. I'd adopt her in a heartbeat.

But that's the beauty of it. I just don't care. You can always make it go faster and there will still always be someone else faster than you. I'd just rather enjoy the driving experience more than always trying to be the fastest, because you will never be the fastest.

It really boils down to this; some guys just care about lap times and 1/4 mile numbers and with the new technology, the automatics are wayy faster. But, outside of Stat Sheets and lap times, there's the driver experience and some people just simply appreciate a manual versus an automatic. Its not always about power and speed and thats why the miata is a hit; because chassis is tuned right, the engine is nothing to talk about but compliments the the chassis setup well.
I find it way more rewarding to row my own gears and many enthusiasts are the same. Someone brought up porsche and yes the PDK is amazing in the GT3 RS. But they also released the 911.R which is stick; for a reason.

I've had 8 Mustang all Sticks 3 supercharged. My last one I built and sold in 4 months 1,800 miles. 2016 GTPP Roushcharged 670hp my least favorite car to drive. I loved driving them but got tired of sloppy transmission. I have my 9th Mustang on order 2018 A10. Every review seems to love it and I hope I do too ( almost bought a HELLCAT but Just couldn't. Maybe im getting old? (39)

The mt-82 isn't the smoothest but a MGW shifter would've helped and a good clutch. Before you totally give up on manual, drive a gt-350; that thing is amazing. It's how the gt should feel.

My boss has a 2017 GT350 and while yes it is a amazing car it felt a little slow. I feel if your card is 500hp and under a stick is super fun to drive but if your Supercharged ( mine will have the new gen 5 Whipple ) the stick experience sucks.

I will have to agree. I am currently at 630whp on a stock drivetrain and researching clutches and driveshaft/halfshaft. I think I may end up going with a mantic clutch, mgw shifter , carbon fiber drive shaft and halfshafts; but waiting a bit because that'll be super expensive.
But you have to at least acknowledge the drivetrain on the gt350 feels amazing; actually after driving the gt 350 I went back into my car, which I've adapted to and can shift the mt-82 pretty well (I guide it through the gears and don't directly push it into gear which seems to work), when I drove my car right after it did feel like a slippy mess. And the gt350 will feel slow until you rev it past 6000 rpm and it's nuts because I always shifted at like 7300 and it had another 1000 rpms left; but that's when it really comes to life.

The gt350 is perfect exactly the way it is. I wouldn't make any changes to it. If you're a truck guy it's perfectly balanced on the street it drives great. I just like to go a little faster. It looks amazing too.

I completely agree and truly wonder how many have actually spent a lot of seat time in a manual. I test drove the A10. It might be faster, but no way in hell is it a better driving experience than with a manual. Driving around in traffic it was constantly changing gears. I just don't get the end all be all you've just got to drive the A10. I guess I just like to have too much fun when I'm out tooling around. My wife even enjoyed driving the manual better. When we drove the auto, I believe her comment was, "You wouldn't actually get an automatic, would you?"

In my view for about 40 years of driving has always been stick shift or nothing and while driving my new GT with the A10 I miss the shifting, I seriously do. Alas my manual days are through.

In traffic in the A10 and in normal mode mine doesn't do a lot of shifting, it does a lot of down shifting as I decelerate for lights or stopped traffic. When I go to slow down I pull back on the shifter and it triggers sport mode which rev matches as you slow down.

It sounds cool and you do less braking, when I stop I put it back indo D for normal mode and she accelerates so smoothly and effortlessly it amazes me. When I hit a hill the converter locks up and she uses torque to get up the hill, most of the time very little throttle is required. Going into sport mode makes it interesting as well, spirited driving can be achieved with a big grin on your face.

I remember the dark days of cars, the 70's and the early 80's, automatics sucked, cars sucked. In 1985 Ford released the new Mustang GT to a lot of acclaim. Forged, decent heads, 4 barrel, aluminum intake, headers..... then they released the automatic Mustang GT with a whopping 165hp. I test drove one while waiting for my special order 5.0 LX Coupe and it blew my mind it was so slow. Anemic shifts, anemic acceleration, pathetic.

In 2004 I test drove a new Mustang GT automatic, it too felt anemic and pathetic. In 2007 I bought my wife a new Mustang GT auto and with the 6spd it actually felt pretty damn fast!

All I can say is finally Ford has an auto for people who choose one or don't have a choice and can finally have fun with them!! :ford:

I test drove the A10 as well and honestly it just puts the power down and goes. The way it shifts when pushed is kinda like powershifting without all the damage...LOL; really blown away by it.
I also drove the manual 2018 and its alot smoother; im guessing the dual mass flywheel has alot to do with the smoothness and the shifter feels alot better. Depending on your style, you can't go wrong with the 2018. Since alot of guys are boosting the A10 to get faster drag times, it will be interesting to see how it will handle 700hp+ shifting the way it does. People who say PP2 should be automatic are the same people who say GT350 should be automatic.

I'm glad Ford understands and respects manual the way it deserves. I'm sorry, automatic people. There's always a PP1 or GT500 for people like you.

If Ford stops offering manual in their top line offerings like Audi, etc. I'll look elsewhere.

Even Porsche brought back manual because they realized manual is people's car and manual sells.

Why would anybody care if Ford offered the PP2 or any high performance car in an auto?? As long as they have what each person wants thats what should count.

Shoving an automatic in a car doesn't show disrespect to anybody unless they replace the manual with one.

How about if somebody decides something you like or want shouldn't be available but hey, something else is for people like you.

Pulling back to S when decelerating for a stop is exactly what I do.

The first time up a long hill I was staring at the gear number. It stayed on 10. I was really pleased with that.

I need to find a road to test the different mode options. Opening her up in drag mode is like crack, it bangs the gears something fierce!

I'm astounded the bean counters allowed that plus the line lock etc.... whatever drugs they've been on they need to keep taking 'em!

The past month or so cops have been around like angry bees who got a big gas allowance, they are friggin everywhere lately so I have to be careful. :tsk:
