EcoBoost doesn't take that big of a hit. It's more like an 11% drop in HP (from 310 to 275) and 6% drop in torque (320 to 300).V6 and V8 will have less than 5% performance loss between 87 and 93. Not worth the extra $$$ unless your track racing.
However, the ecoboost loses around 15-20% performance which makes it worth it. Here in Canada we have 94 which gives mine even more power.
Google 'top tier gasoline'.Another part to my thread. I've always been told that all brands of gas are the same since this will be my first fill up. What gas station brands are the best. I usually use Sam's. Since this is my first high performance car I'm trying use the best so hope no one thinks I'm dumb about gas etc.

* Recommended fuel is Unleaded premium...The GT is a high compression motor 11:0:1 So it makes sense to run 93 or 91. But running 87 is going to bog the car down even though it has sensors to retard timing etc. Most high compression motors I've owned require unleaded premium.
I test drove 6 GTs before my purchase and I could tell some were sluggish in power delivery compared to the rest. But I suspected it could have been due to different octane levels 87 vs 91 or 93. And I test drove all of them in sport mode.
But if you know your car well you can always tell when there is power loss due to shitty gas. For instance I drove my STi on E85 in the southern states and those sates had shitty E85, my car was running sluggish. But as soon as I got to the Midwest, the gas was different and I could tell that the power delivery was normal.
2.3L EcoBoost and 5.0L V8 Engines We recommend regular unleaded gasoline with a pump (R+M)/2 octane rating of 87. Some stations offer fuels posted as regular with an octane rating below 87, particularly in high altitude areas. We do not recommend fuels with an octane rating below 87. To provide improved performance, we recommend premium fuel for severe duty usage, such as trailer tow
I wouldn't say he's a dick, but most of his comments ARE 'dick like'. ;)LOLOL What a d!ck.:LOL![]()
The recommended fuel is 87 across all the engines from the owners manual on page 128. Also the EPA tests with 87 unless the engine requires premium like an Audi.
The website is recommending 93 in order to get the HP/TQ figures up in the chart.

The Audis require premium according to their website/manuals. Even the EPA/Fuel site tests the Audis with premiums. What is that Audi compression ratio?
Look at the compression ratios of all the 3 motors for the Mustang and see the difference. Hence, a high compression motor is going to recommend use of unleaded premium.
Yes... you can run your whatever Unleaded regular gas but the ECU will retarding timing to prevent knock because the lower octane gas detonates before compression inside the cylinder.... thus your car will run sluggishly but very few might notice the difference.
