Hello everyone! this is an interesting one I could use help with.

first let me say I am new here and this forum inspired me to go with my black GT 5.0 premium as of April 2019

Car is a gt premium with only MBRP race catback, 20" wheels staggered....everything else is stock.

My issue: car will no longer go past 80MPH on stock, or other tunes

5/15/2019- purchased Lund tune and sct bdx device via beefcake/Lund email tune. Both have been amazing with their support, however we are exhausted out of options at this point and other than returning to the dealer (which will not be too happy about me having changed the factory tune) I figured there is more expertise here

Prior to 5/15 car would advance well past 80MPH (in Mexico of course) no issues

did the standard upload of the lund base tune.....did logs for lund and sent those back. Immediately received the flex and e85r tunes and did a log as well and was given the green light by lund on being clear to run.

noticed immediately after lund tunes I could not advance past 80MPH speed limiter-

-even when using Cruise control
-advance traction control off
-normai, sport, sport+, track, drag modes
- base tune, flex tune, e85r and most recently stock tunes make no difference

Vehicle is logging a DTC of u2100 and u0122 on the box device (however there is no check engine light to date), there was also an issue when initially setting up the BDX in that it failed its last 2 updates out of 30 total.

WHAT I HAVE DONE SO FAR:

-changed all tunes, even reverted back to stock tune with 91 pump gas as stated before
-combed through all tunes with Dakota from lund....he verified the "speed limiter" option is unchecked with all tunes
-MyKey- 0 set. Admin keys only (i even created a new MyKey specifically to move the speed limiter option to "off" however this made NO change)
-Kam reset
-cleared DTCs via bdx (they immediately reappear)
-removed battery for 10 mins
-removed vehicle body dynamics and pcm fuses for at least 10 mins (which is what the DTC codes claim, "vehicle lost connectivity to body dynamics module")
-Trouble shooted SCT directly (they took my serial number, overlooked and uploaded recovery files to the bdx device. Reverted to stock tune, then updated to e85r tune afterwards)- NO change, still seeing DTCs

SCT has stated they will run this up to the engineers tomorrow if the recovery files did not correct the issues

Dakota at lund and myself are completely baffled on this. there is no physical reason for the vehicle to have a hard limiter at 80MPH other than the tune or MyKey, which is currently off (i also do not get a warning when approaching or at vehicle speed limit as I should if the MyKey option were turned on), certainly not after reverting to stock on pump gas (e85 was completely drained to "0Miles left")

Dakota claims to have seen several issues with 2019's and the BDX device and has recommended me to swap for n-guage (a decision I now regret if this is in fact true). Beefcake has urged me to trouble shoot with SCT directly as the 2 believe the device itself could be faulty. Once they have trouble shooted completely, if no solution is found, I will go that route

for now, those who have used this unit in conjunction with Lund tune, your expertise would be greatly appreciated in advance

Dakota also mentioned taking to a local dealer for an ECM flash/update, however I am not reluctant to do so obviously since the stock PCM has now been modified, however if that is the fix, I am more than willing to go that route.

Vehicle currently has 1500mi on the odd (my weekend car which typically sits for several days at a time if that provides any context). I am in Socal, where the weather is great, and I do not drive the vehicle in rain. E85 was also verified with data logging for at least 80% alcohol consistency

thoughts and comments welcome and appreciated, Thanks All!!

Probably the liberal California government monitoring your HP/sound/emissions and setting you to 80 mph max

I wouldn't doubt that.....god I hate this state...

also should add I have data logs of all 3 tunes if someone wants to take a peek (limited to 79.3MPH in all 3 instances)

You might have compromised your ECU with that tune and perhaps the factory software is implementing some sort of limp mode. Keep in mind that your warranty is now in Jeopardy of not being honored since you tampered with it. Of course this is contingent on your dealership. Good luck and hope you get it sorted out.

Also, it rains in So Cal?? LOL

Thanks I appreciate the response.

However I am aware of what tuning consists of and the ramifications of doing so. Again I am not looking to warranty claim as obviously modifications were made on my behalf.

Was looking more for actual users out there who have experienced this issue, or have experience with forescan or the bdx device

Thanks

Sounds like you may be using your second key which you may have programmed for a certain mph.

^^^ He has already stated that my key admin and settings have been verified to not be active. Even tried making an additional and verifying limiter was set to off.

OP - I have looked at an 11-14 Ford shop manual I have. The 18+ S550's are way more sophisticated than even the 15-17 S550 models. So this is simply a spit wad thrown against the wall gander based on older manuals. The Uxxxx code on older modules is specific to loss of communications with specific devices on the CANBUS. This is likely even more detailed on the latest model platform S550.

I know this is going to sound Cliche and I hate to even say because every desk jockey who has a garage and an unused clean box of tools in it thinks everything can be resolved through lose connections, resetting the ECU, clearing KAM, or tightening a loose ground wire. That said go revisit any area under the hood or under the dash where you may have knocked a connector loose. If you had connectors pulled and plugged them back in, pull, inspect for pushed pins and reconnect again. Look for oddities. If a speed shop was involved with doing any dyno pulls for the purpose of collecting data speak to them and find out if they disconnected anything to make the pulls or disabled anything throughout their process.

The 2 U codes are likely the key to your issue. U2100 at a guess is a general DTC and the U0122 is specific to the device or system causing the issue.

Last thought for you. SCT has been known to require programmer firmware updates that will warn you the following, "BEFORE PERFORMING THIS UPDATE PLEASE RETURN VEHICLE TO STOCK CONDITION BEFORE CONTINUING. STOCK TUNE MAY BE LOST DURING UPDATE", or something to that effect. I have had this pop up on an SCT device on my 17 and had to reflash to stock before doing the firmware update that would then finally allow me to load a tune revision...thus one of the many reasons why I will NEVER use SCT on an S550 platform again. My point here is this. IF, and only IF you did a firmware update to your device and ignored this warning, you may have corrupted the stock tune. That is a bug fat MAYBE. But if you did the correct procedure when updating the device OR no updates have been required, then you should be able to 95% scratch that off of your list of probable causes and again concentrate on verifying any loose or missed connections that may have been compromised during you modifications. Last that leaves the obvious...the U2100 and U0122 codes that won't go away and there is my expert guess as to where your problem resides. It is quite possibly coincidental that this occurred during or just after tuning and has nothing to do with your tune modification. That said that would still make this a warranty covered problem.

As for no CEL cropping up, my wife's Fusion developed a problem that was related to the fuel rail pressure sensor. While there was a symptom and a DTC logged, there was no CEL on the dash hinting to even plug an OBD device in to scan it. So it is possible that since this does not compromise 90% of Ford owners, because they never drive over 75, Ford deemed it not serious enough to be a CEL. So keep that in mind.

Thanks UG

great suggestions

I've gone through the vehicle and both passenger kick panel as well as underhood fuse boxes and pulled all applicable fuse boxes (PCM, VSM etc) and verified nothing is blown

I also verified all lines going into the underwood ECU as well (I did need to get the PCM code off the computer prior to sending lund my information for my tune- only to be told 19+s no longer need PCM code)- while I was here I noticed my washer fluid reservoir was open, since I took delivery of the vehicle (not sure if this is applicable)

Unfortunately from there, since this vehicle is 95% stock other than the MBRP catback, there isn't much that I tampered with......if such connections became disrupted, it was under normal conditions, definitely not from tampering/installing aftermarket equipment

Engineers with SCT are currently engaged on the issue and have given an up to 2 week turnaround period to find the issue. what concerns me is the u2100 code that states the vehicle has lost communication with the vehicle dynamics control module. Ive pulled that fuse multiple times (passenger kick panel) and it looks solid.......not sure how a tune can cause that code other than the sct device itself being corrupted.

my only resort from here is a trip to the stealership as stated above for a PCM flash.......however I want to get the SCT BDX issues sorted before I put the e85 tune back on the car (don't want to have the same issues right afterwards). if i can rule out the BDX as the culprit, then I will return and swap for the n-gauge as it looks like a much more promising device for this platform.

any other suggestions in the interim? thanks all

It is sounding like the SCT device may have caused a disassociation with a module or modules on the canbus network. Unfortunately due to the problem you are having it will likely require a complete reprogramming of the entire system. This goes beyond simply a tune flash. I am learning that these S550's are very different than the previous S197's. The canbus existed on the 05-14 S197 but was much less relied upon. One exception was the device called the "Smart Junction Box". This device was like a giant body module for various systems. If it went bad (many did due to intrusion of water due to a build oops by Ford that was finally remedied) the replacement had to be addressed and initiailzed to work with the ECU and other devices communicating on that bus.

S550's store things like tire size and differential gear in body modules. Lunds Ngauge now has the ability to change those two values without disturbing the tune. So after your thorough review of connections, we can conclude somewhat comfortably one of two things has occurred in general. 1.) The SCT BDX has disrupted addressing and protocol on one or more modules on the CANBUS. 2.) An actual device responsible for holding values such as speed limiting and other data has failed and will not allow changes to be made during the SCT BDX reflash.

Provide detail and be patient with the dealer just as you have with SCT. If possible build a relationship with the service manager. If they nail the problem on the first hit, take a moment to return shortly after, meet the manager and ask to meet the guy who worked on the car. A hand shake and a word of thanks goes a long long long long way in the world of service work. Ask me, I know. I'd sooner receive a thank you and a kind word from a customer when I was in field service than anything. Goes a long way to lifting the service guy's disposition toward you when/if you have to return...and if he is that good you request him which makes him feel even better. Now its become personal to him to see the car as something more than simply another flat rate job. Sorry to get preachy. I've spent a lot of years in field service work and like shop service work it can be very thankless. Best of luck to you. PLEASE PLEASE provide the outcome.

appreciate the insight UG

looks my option at this point is to await the findings of SCT, and drain the current e85 from my tank, and return to stock. CA dealers are notorious for frowning on aftermarket upgrades (my 2017 kia is still waiting a warranty claim in the shop for a new trans after the dealer attempted to blame the issue on my 20" wheels, once those were converted to stock, they "agreed" to get kia onboard with a warranty replacement)

my honest transparent findings in CA, is that although the moss-magnusen act is in place, CA has adopted the "blame after market part first" mentality and force you to convert to stock before they will attempt to even assist you with a warranty claim, maybe rightfully so due to the reimbursement process of warranty claims, however its definitely "guilty until you can prove it innocent" mentality with CA dealers, where dealers pretty much laugh at the mass-magnusen act, unless you can get actual litigation going (not just threaten to do so)

however I am willing give it a try and report back here for the benefit of the community

thanks all!

FYI the Vehicle Dynmamics Control Module is on the right side of the trunk floor between the spare tire well and the fender. Access requires removing the rear and RH trunk trim panels.

I don't know if this part is for MagneRide only 18+ plus cars but it might be worth checking the connector.
