I've never believed that the BBQ tick is piston slap, and still don't. From what I've heard from videos, the BBQ tick is a different sort of noise.

My Mustang has been on 5W-30 since the first oil change and is eerily silent compared to my '19 F150 5.0, which has clattered like a diesel since Day 1 (also on 5W-30); I attribute the truck's clatter to the DI pump. Neither engine exhibits the BBQ tick or anything like it.

It makes sense. My mustang sounds like a diesel sometimes in the cold. Ever since I switched it to 5w30 it's been smooth.

Yeah but it change, I believe it was sometime in 2021. So some 2021 cars will have 5w20 caps and some will have 5w30 caps. Quite odd they changed it in the middle of a production year
That’s great information thank you for sharing!

On my 2018, it's 5W20 on the cap but the manual states that under hard driving condition (like Track use) you shall put 5W30, and get back to 5W20 afterwards (!!). Knowing that a W30 oil will resist better to high temp (it will shear at higher temp) and that the low temp viscosity will just slightly increase that makes sense.
In my case, I'm a hot season only driver so I always put 5W30 with no issue at all. And I've changed the oil cap for a 5W-30 one :D

Don't forget that 5W-30 is good down to some pretty cold temperatures....5W-20 was usually only found in places like Canada until around the year 2000 when OEM's started using it for CAFE ratings.

Actually no need to change the oil cap unless you don't do oil changes yourself (in which case you'd want the guy doing the oil change to put the 5w30 in it instead of the 5w20).

Got it! I'm kind of like that myself with the battery cover, clips, etc. except for the oil cap.:thumbsup:

I always thought that Ford increased the oil weight due to all the Coyote noise complaints. But that's just my idle speculation.

I don't know if there was ever an official cause to the tick

and it seems to me that if ceratec filled microscopic holes in the metal it would stay there and you wouldn't need a new bottle when you changed the oil
I suspect its either pump cavitation or the phasers myself. I run 5W50 as per Roush. I think thats a little too thick myself. Probably a 40 is more like it.

I have under 6000 miles on a 2021 gt . So far I have no engine tic, what is your guys opinion on adding lique Molly on a engine with no tick as a precaution?

I've seen plenty of messages of people using it even without finding the tick. They do it as an extra precaution.

Not necessary as it not a preventative. All Coyote's have the tic. It's just the volume level. If you can hear it use the Ceratec. If you can't leave well enough alone.

As I said, pointless. You can't prevent something that's already there.
