I have a dumb smart TV since it is not connected to the internet and never will be, I do have a piece of tape over the camera on my PC though so no spying on me.

I'm still trying to find the camera or microphone in my PC. I built the PC and included neither, but they are there somewhere because I keep getting emails from some hacker saying he has recorded me doing naughty things.

Regarding TV, I don't hook them up to internet unless I have a reason to update the software. Am assuming the TVs can't tunnel back thru the HDMI to the Roku box and trick it to upload whatever the TV recorded.

So is the hacker telling the truth about you doing naughty things.:crazy:

Not sure on the TV and Roku box but I have Dish TV and it is connected with coaxial cable to Hopper so don't believe it can tunnel back thru it. Hopper must be connected to internet to update or stream programs, and I am not worried about updating TV to latest software since it works fine now. My TV is just that a TV nothing else.

I bought LG TV because it doesn't have a mic or a camera and it's proprietary OS. Put a drop of super glue in the remote mic, and my shield TV remote.and it running through a paid privacy shielded dedicated IP on a Privacy Hero VPN modem I paid cash for....no tracking.

Have Kaspersky Total Security on all PCs it blocks all camera and mic with on demand reporting plus Android devices all have mic and camera turned off.

It's just fun because I don't really care what tracking is done.....though I do have fun trying to minimize it.

Yeah Kaspersky is amazing never had a computer issue or hack, ever. Running win10 pro on a 12 year old Sony PC and it's blazing fast with all Microsoft and other apps spyware blocked and disabled. Every day auto cleans 1000s of activity traces, cookies and other trash spyware left behind....it's mind blowing.

It's hilarious to see so many cutting edge competitors blocked because they refuse to hand over the back door keys, like Huawei, then deemed security risk like TicToc LOL.

Looking forward to my BYD Shark GS with 8 year warranty in MX! Shame can't get them here....

This obviously is up to you, but fyi kaspersky is banned in the US due to security concerns.

I had Kaspersky a few years back and while it was easy to use it never really seemed to completely clean and remove all issues on my PC. I now have PC Matic and it does so much more thorough of a job at cleaning and removing all traces and issues that Kaspersky did not address. Plus, it is American owned and operated.

I drove my car into a lake after reading this thread, just to be safe /s

Real-time (or close to it) data being transmitted to 3rd parties is where I draw the line. Phones and cars have many similarities in terms of data tracking capabilities, but also have many differences in form and function. Both still have certain legal protections (at least as to government action) for a reason.

I do, however, support "black boxes" of sorts for vehicles - only accessible after the fact, no live transmission, etc.

I've seen hit-and-runs and other heinous and tragic events get solved and the appropriate people held accountable for endangering and hurting/killing others based on that kind of data, which is nearly always obtained after the appropriate due process is afforded.

But tattling to Geico because I had an empty on-ramp and was testing my new blinker fluid install? Pass.

Legacy subscriptions are not banned. Used to use AVG until they were bought out and became massive bloatware. Will look into PC Matic.

Hey guys, just noticed something. When I replaced the factory head unit, the Ford app lost the ability to find my car on it GPS map feature.

I have not disconnected the antenna or removed the fuse yet but I thought I would share that the Sync/radio unit is relaying your exact location to Ford.

This same information is used to determine how you are driving the car and where your driving the car. In case of an accident, they can reconstruct wether you were considered by their standards to be driving recklessly.

The same information could aid in a repossession, warranty cancellation, ect.

The Ford App still relays the miles and current fuel capacity. The remote start still works as well without the Sync radio in the car.

Question? Does the fuse being pull stop you Ford App from Remote starting the car?

Pulling the fuse or otherwise disconnecting the telematics unit should de-couple the Ford app entirely. The key fob remote start will still work.

My fordpass app is now dead with the fuse pulled and the module disconnected in terms of being able to track vehicle or read/update mileage and fuel level info. I don't do remote start from fob so cannot speak to that question.

I disconnected the telematics module operation for 2 reasons. 1. I did not want ford tracking/profitting off my personnel info for any reason. 2. I still use an iPhone 6S that will never update to IOS 16.0 or greater and back in the summer of 24 ford pass had an update that requires IOS 16.0 or higher to function on an iPhone so since they chose not to allow me to still be able to use ford pass on my obsolete 6S phone I said good riddance to it.

I have other apps that are now inop on my phone as well now, but I don't need any of them either since I just use it as a phone. Both ford and apple can F**k O** IMO.
