Axle nut + 45° my f$&@ing ass!!

No. Damn. Way.

I went 98 lb Ft and then with a 32” breaker bar AND a pipe extension on the end of the breaker bar, I got somewhere around 20°…and that’s all I could get. No way in hell I was gonna get that nut another 45°

There’s red locktite on the nut, so I doubt that’s coming off. But no damn way…send it!

I feel you. When I did my axle nut I'm not even sure I got 20° after the initial torque. I used a 1/2" breaker bar and put a 6ft extension on it. Car would bounce on tbe jack stands but that nut wasn't moving.

I thought about using the impact, but I didn't want to just sit there and beat on that thing. I can't imagine it would/will make that much difference. Crazy though.

I use a 36 inch breaker bar and a floor Jack to turn it. I hate those nuts.

I could have gotten mine to 45* with my 4 foot 1 in-drive breaker bar but I was comfortable with the 20* I got with the 1/2in drive. I also didn't want to be one of those guys to test that procedure and end up with a car I couldn't drive for a few days.

That 1 in-drive breaker bar is no joke though. It was necessary for the 450-550 ft/lbs torque spec on my F800

You must trigger it, a single blast hammering the nut ain't going to do it.

Calling it now. In a couple weeks there will be a new thread from OP. Title will be "IRS Knuckle Destroyed By Axle".

But in all seriousness when I had to replace one of my knuckles I used an impact. I figured either the impact or the axle would break, but I was frustrated and went full send. It worked.

Nope. If that last little umph makes that much difference, imma keep my mouth shut and eat my crow! LOL. Nut and hub are marked, so I will keep an eye on it. Honestly; I’d probably go try to send it a little further but my locktite is dried by now.

If you really want something to give just put your breaker bar and extension on it, lay it on the ground, and put it on gear. Guarantee something will move.

I do mine at 175-185lb-ft with 242 blue Loctite. Then mark nut/shaft end with a Sharpie line. They have never budged, and I’ve taken them off 3-4 times and re-installed over the past 2 years. I re-use the nut as well.
