Gettin' old
Seriously? That's LAUGHABLE!I get that your a car guy. I happen to like engines and drive the best of them. There are also Automotive awards that have been going on for 50 years, with Best Engine & Engineering. You do know this.? Don't you..?
Any true car enthusiast would never in his/her lifetime assume that a magazine article can tell them which engine is best, period.
Need proof why that statement rings true? Look at Ward's 10 best for 2014... if you can find a single engine on the list which hasn't been around at least 5yrs, the list is all about what the "judges" deemed cool, based on what they've been told and/or read. That's hardly an accurate way to determine what's best. In fact, it's a JOKE of a way and usually comes down to which company paid them the most! Ward's is the 1st to come to mind for me and it's only 20yrs old... apparently about your age.
That said, for 2014, Ford has a new engine on the list and BMW has an engine on the list(#2)... Ram and Chevy each have engines on the list... Ironically, no Mercedes Benz engines made the list... I suppose they're just not as good as Ford, GM and RAM anymore... :tsk:
I won't argue against brilliant engineering, but that means little here... After all, the small block OHV was brilliant engineering... That doesn't mean every engine designed by brilliant engineers is a great engine, let alone the best engine. Besides, you're also apparently thinking that only BMW and M-B can have the best engineers... that's simply not the case, of course. And that brilliant Engineering is what makes a brilliant Engine. Right..?
I put no dog in that fight and won't. In fact, I think you're probably very close to exact on your analysis there. Also, I am not saying the 2.3 EB can't put out that kind of power, it just wouldn't make sense for the CAFE and warranty stuff. So it will be much lower in stock form. (315hp/320tq at best)

Yep. I said as much a few days ago when I commented on the strong torque of the Pontiac and the Ford tuner for the 2L.Ford will probably offer a "Race Tune" at some point for the EB Mustang to unlock most of it, etc.. And make no doubt, I am sure some mullet-heads will fudge the turbos & internals and have 450hp down the strip in no time.
Actually, I used to have an astoundingly wonderful M5... So? I didn't say a thing negative about BMW, just that they're expensive and not better overall, from what we can actually tell with the information we have. I know they have great a chassis under many bodies, but I also know that they're hardly the only company worthy of that accolade. I don't have a closed mind about automobiles, believe it or not. I call as I see it w/o a crap load of guessing that I don't call guessing..Lastly, I can tell you never driven in a BMW. Even people who don't like them, can't deny the ride & chassis response, etc. The reason Cadillac & Ford go after them..
