Spoke to Livernois this morning. They will be able to reconfigure my module from the ST to the new Mach 1. They are guessing a tune will be a reality within a few weeks of the cars release once they can get hands on a pcm. I'm in.

You will probably have the fastest Mach in all of Skunk Hollow!

Were the Bullitts seeing gains in tunes? I would think absent E85, or other bolt ons, a tune isn't likely to do much but increase drive-ability.

The Gen3 seems to be fairly maxed out with the Bullitt/Mach setup in regards to tuning.

Bullitt with JUST a good e85 tune can see 495-505whp, they pick up about ~20WHP from a good 93oct tune with about identical TQ gain. Unless the mach1 has a more agressive version of the OEM Bullitt tune, I'd expect near identical number from them.

So considering Ford has to account for 91, and variations in in altitude, it would reason that motor is basically tuned up from Ford. Sure if you change to E85 or a strict 93 only diet there is some power to be had, but absent that it is likely not worth the squeeze outside of drive-ability gains.

I never knew where the 500 HP numbers were coming from. Everything known at the time was the 480 Bullitt tune was about as good as it would get from Ford. Apparently that's true if there aren't big 91 gains to be had out there.

You would have to specifically ask a tuner what numbers they are seeing on 91, there isn't usually a huge difference between 91 and 93 tunes. I wouldt be amazed if people are still getting ~15 more on 91.There likely is power left for 91as tuners don't have to care as much about strict emissions or engine durability.

Also your statement about "Sure if you change to E85 or a strict 93 only diet there is some power to be had".
1) Flex tunes exist, that's the point, you're not having to be strict to either e85 or 93
2) A Tune has ALWAYS required you to be on the same octane after you get a tune. Thats how it has ALWAYS been if you don't get a flex tune.

Look up TuningByJames, he's done more Bullitt tuning that about anyone and worked with Steeda on the McQueen Edition tunes. His e85 tune is dyno proven for ~500whp. His Premium fuel tune is ~460whp.

There isn't much reason Ford could not have made the car Flex Fuel officially that would have given them a lot more headroom for power. Even conservative they could have gotten a 535HP rating with just e85. James' tune is roughly 565 crank. That said James is able to get 457WHP with just his Premium tune. Sure it's hotter than Ford would do, but that's still about 520 Crank. Ford could have gone a bit less than that and still gotten a 490-500 rating. In stock form the car makes about ~435whp, that's already ~495 crank if you convert back assuming 12% drivetrain loss.

Don't forget with just a better tune the Bullitt almost makes the same numbers as the GT350, they just swap a few HP for a couple TQ. I suspect Ford doesn't want to step on the GT350's toes to much with a car thats mostly just a tuned up GT.

The only gains from the Mach 1 engine aka bullitt engine will be from bolt ons. Tune by itself ain't gonna do much as FORD did a very good job at tuning it. Get the parts first. Then the tune.

Well thats true for any NA car. You get more gains by tuning AFTER adding parts.

There's ZERO difference if your using a reputable tuner in terms of a tune. For example, LUND piggybacks off of FORD'S Adaptive Octane Logic and usually only puts a cap on timing. However horsepower wise, going from 91 to 94 octane yielded myself something like a 25 rwhp difference. I'd call that significant.

Depends, some manufactures tunes are so conservative we've seen huge HP gains with just a tune, others not so much.

You must have some low quality 91 in your area. I'm familiar with how Lund tunes, he's 2 town over from me and has done every one of my cars :-) On my 2003 Mach1 the difference between 91 and 93 was just an additional 2.5* timing, about 7whp. You shouldn't be seeing 25hp between a 91 and 93oct tune by the same person on a stock car. Unless its CRAZY hot out during one tune and cold during the other and there is no SAE correction used on the dyno. To me that screams the 91oct tune wasn't properly done, or was done with a crap quality 91. Or these are two totally different dyno machines with different calibration.

If you want a comparison Lund, on 93oct got 20WHP from a stock 2018 GT, vs stock tune. If OEM tune on 93 vs custom 93oct is 20whp, the difference in TUNED 91 and TUNED 93 is NOT going to be 20whp. You have other factors involved if you saw a 25whp difference.

That said, yes come cars are conservative. Heck I've seen a freaking Escort go from 98WHP to 120 with JUST a good 93oct tune. Those cars were optimized more for 87oct, MPG and smoothness than performance. That doesn't change the fact that you're going to see MORE gains when paired with modifications... which is exactly what I said.

93oct got 20WHP from a stock 2018 GT
Which is about right for a 18+, I shoulda been more clear, in my case I'm talking 15-17. As for timing, 3-3.5 degrees more going from SHELL 91 to HUSKY 94. Both fuels are pretty sweet.

And that’s because the bullitt was underrated big time.

James did my e85 tune on my 18 Mustang GT. In Texas we get pretty good corn to burn. The car was a beast.
