Thought it was the dreaded engine/typewriter tick, but it stops with the AC off. Anyone else have this issue? Debating on taking it to the dealer...

Definitely take it to the Dealer. There been threads on here where the compressor clutch assembly or field coil comes apart - and when that happens it shreds the A/C belt, it couid damage the main serpentine belt, and the whole front part of the compressor is all over the place....

If you have time, search on here for "compressor" and you'll find similar threads of concern with the A/C system making strange noises.

So I have to rant/vent.

I called a few dealerships for a service appointment...WOW. They want me to drop off the car and "will get to it in 3-5 days". One dealer said the next appointment was in December! I have an extended premium service plan with rental/loaner coverage but they need a diagnosis...so I guess I'm just without a car for a week? WTH Ford!? Never had that crap with my shitty Dodge. We were looking at the Explorer ST...Not anymore. Is this the norm for you guys out there, or is this just crappy south ATL?

This actually isn't Ford's fault, this is just the state of the world right now. Dealerships have no techs, no parts, and massive backlogs because of that.

My wife made some headway with a manager from another dealership...but still have to drop off the car and wait. He said latest 2 days before they will have an answer. It did just have an oil change...wonder if the tech hit something. Just sucks and it might be how it is, but it's my first experience with Ford service. We'll see how it goes.

After searching online/youtube, the tick was the dreaded "Typewriter tick". It seems for mine it needed to have load on the engine...and it has to be warm. Because it started after an oil change, I assumed it was done with regular vs. synthetic. So I decided to try the CerTec liquid Moly additive before dealing with ford service.

Warmed up the engine and added 2 cans (each can does 5qts). Took the car around the block and sure enough, the ticking stopped. My wife says she can hear it, but it's very subdued. So, I guess it's just how it is with the 3rd gen.

I had a 2016 SCAT Charger that didnt need service.
I guess you never heard about 5.7 and 6.4 MDS lifter failures, ticking, and cars waiting for weeks being serviced.

why is it that this occurred AFTER the first oil change?
I m at 1500 miles and will wait a little longer to change oil but will use OEM Blend and ordered certatec too.

Didn't happen for me...so I haven't been in a service department in a few years. COVID has changed the industry. Also, I get it, shit breaks. Just didn't appreciate your comment. I actually don't have the tick anymore...just took an oil additive probably because the dealer put shitty oil when I paid for a "premium" plan.
