Never overheated before but this was my first time at the track. I wish i had baseline but i know for sure the diff is running 50 degrees cooler with the sheild on the streets.
50 degrees is a huge improvement, and unless you're just dogging the shit out of it everywhere, then it's not because the diff is working overtime.

Has anyone had overheating issues while running the full aluminium diff housing that the 3:15 cars use? I'd assume they would be better at keeping the temps lower?

Encouraging.

I do like the fact that the 'blankets' are being held out of direct contact with the pipes themselves by some sort of stand-offs, rather than being simply wrapped around the pipes .

Metal to air to blanket to air to diff sure ought to beat metal to blanket to air to diff in terms of resistance to heat transfer into the diff. Might even be better from a corrosion caused by trapped moisture point of view as well.

After reading this entire thread, I too believe that the Heatshield Products Exhaust Pipe Heat Shield kits would be the most economical and easiest solution to this issue. I plan on purchasing this product and testing it at Chuckwalla in February.
Hi, can you please provide an update, if you've tested already? And what's the correct size to order?

I've got an HPDE in April, if I can figure out how to log my diff fluid temps I should get some data from that. Anybody know how to do that with a 2016?

My '17 perf pack GT has a diff temp sensor, but there's no gauge in the display or in the ECU according to Torque. I wonder what the hell it's plugged into.

If your car's message center can display a message indicating that the differential fluid is overheated, it would be input to whatever module sends that message.

Yeah that’s my thing either the BCM or PCM can see that input, there should be some way to access it in the software.

it may be a CAN bus item, not OBD. Get one of those multi-protocol dongles.

It's a OBDLink MX, which supports CAN. Maybe Torque can't see it and I need another app.

Thanks to THIS POST from BMR Tech in another thread, I now know the differential temp sensor is in a blind hole, which means it's really just reading the cover temp.

As soon as I get a chance I'm going to slap a thermocouple on the temp sensor boss and take some readings, just need to be sure my multimeter will do temperature first with a K-type thermocouple adapter.

the sensor may not be oil safe. And if it was open, you've have to take precautions that it didn't leak. The whole plate is aluminum so while there might be some lag in sensor vs fluid, it won't be enough to matter. The S197 had a delicious fully finned cover that would be perfect if only Ford had carried it forward. But nooooo. Let's spend $1600 on a pump, relay, radiator and a bunch of claptrap...
