Just rebuilt a Coyote motor for a good friend of mine that popped cylinder 8 with 7000 miles on the car. Motor has had a HO kit on it for 5000 miles. Car was running great and making loads of power. He did a pull and when he let off it threw a CEL. Code was p0308 misfire cylinder 8. Here's the carnage. Everyone involved agreed the ring gap in cylinder 8 was way to tight and led to the failure. There were no signs of lean conditions or knock. Rings were at .016 the rest of the cylinders were at .019 -.020. You can see what the piece of piston did to the valves and top of the piston.
Got the motor apart and sent to the machine shop for balance, hone with tq plates and washing
