Confirmed earlier, 2016 Focus RS is coming stateside with 345HP. This is excellent news, seeing as that's the same motor in the Mustang.

Not the same. Different valvetrain, turbo, cylinder head, and intake system. The lower end is the same though.

Granted, all of these parts (minus the intake system) should be able to be swapped between the two, but still. Anyways, that thing is going to be a beast and may compete with the (now defunct) Evo and STi series as the best platform for i4 AWD action.

Cool, probably a bit bigger turbo, maybe different head. Either way, pretty sure many here are making that and more. Remember, the manufacturer rates the HP at the flywheel, not the wheels. And the EB is not 40K :)

More to compete with the Golf R, the possibility of an SRT-4 Dodge Dart that was rumored to have AWD, and the next possible Mazdaspeed3 which might have AWD.

When I was test driving mustangs last week, the dealer stated he had seen preliminary pricing on the RS with very pricy options such as carbon fiber wheels, Ford Racing parts, different Recaro seat options etc. He mentioned that it could be spec'd out to just over 50k and base will start at 40k.

Holy crap that's steep. Of course, I can't confirm if he really saw anything or if it was just guessing but he seemed fairly knowledgeable so I guess it's possible.

But when you break 50k, you take a long hard look at what other kinds of AWD performance cars can be had, like a CLA AMG45 or an Audi S4. At these price points, does a prospective buyer really look at a Ford Focus?

I love my ST partly because I bought it decked out with the S3 package for just under 24k last summer. MSRP sticker on it was 29k. I'd love an RS no doubt, but even at 40k, I would start considering the new Charger R/T scat pack which has 485 HP and looks quite fun. I know these aren't even close to the same kind of cars but with the Charger R/T you can more easily see where all the money went.

That RS has more power than my ST and has AWD, but would I consider it at that price point? I don't think I could. 35k? Yeah, that is more approachable. Anyway, food for thought.

I remember when I was looking at a 'vette, the dealer I was working with SWORE to me that the new ATS-V motor was coming to the new camaro, and how it would be an upgrade to the V8, and all this nonsense. He was stating these all saying he had "seen the options sheets" and knew what was coming.

Sometimes dealers like to lie is what I'm saying lol. I'm expecting it to start priced right around the competition, 35-38k or so.

That's pretty steep for a Focus. Unless it was made in Germany (I'm not sure if it will be) that'll be a pretty hard price to justify.

Oh I agree, it's possible he was just spewing garbage but he did say preliminary so you know, grain of salt and all that.

I too think it should be priced around 35k base and up so the jump from an ST to RS isn't quite as large a gap. Guess we'll see what happens :)

Nope, lower end has a different cylinder liner in the block and different pistons. Everything got a bit more strength.

I imagine it will likely be 91 octane minimum as well but that is just a guess on my part.

That's actually really good news regardless of what it is the base price wont convince many but for the hatchback enthusiasts they wont have a problem with it ford has no problem accepting that they know exactly the people they're targeting here. I'm anxious for the day an RS pulls besides me. I am still waiting however for the "Should I trade my EB for the RS?" thread... lol

I read an article yesterday saying it wasn't going to be built in the US. Somewhere in Europe, just don't remember where.

Ah yeah, sorry didn't mean to jump the gun. I read the article and it stated it was gonna be made in Germany and imported to the U.S.

When I bought my EB I was actually shopping for a Focus ST. There were two things that pushed me to the Mustang; the tight Recaro seats and the Fuel Tank.

The ST is rated very similar to the EB Mustang for Fuel Economy but the Mustang has a 15.5 gallon tank and the ST has 11 (I think). The ST forum has complaints of only getting between 200 and 250 miles to a tankful; that is what I get on my motorcycle. My EB Mustang is where it should be at about 375 to 425 miles to a tank. I did not want to be stopping that often for fuel.

I have no idea how large the tank is on the RS and I expect the FE to be slightly worse than the ST. With AWD and other braces for the suspension I cannot imagine a larger fuel tank than the ST unless an aux tank is fitted somewhere. We will have to wait for the details but the range of the car concerns me at this point. Other than that, what a BLAST it is going to be.

low 30s needs to be the price point. evo 9s where 29k for the base model, now the X's got to be high 30's at the dealership. look how well that worked out for it. for 40k you've got plenty of other options and most people don't want to spend 40k on a focus, even if it is balls fast.
