2015 mustang weight?

I think it would be wise to be really skeptical with this one. 400 pounds should have been an aspirational goal which they never reach in the real world.

They also said the C7 vette was going be 200 pounds lighter but ended up being 100+ heavier due to additional equipment.... heated/ventilated seats, larger brake rotors, cam phasing and cylinder deactivation hardware.
It's now 3400 pounds and thats with an aluminum space frame and no rear seats.

I suspect the 2015 GT with mid level options to have a curb weight of 3500 pounds, shedding just over 100 pounds. altho I'll say.... I'm interested in the S550 now, but if they cut more than 200 pounds I will probably look no further if the design is my taste.

If you want to see if the much shorter track is even possible you just need to compare these two pics. im no good at this stuff.

just eyeballing it though it looks kind of impossible.

They're at slightly different angles, so it'd be hard to match them up. What is easy to do is use the license plate. Since they are all 12" wide, I created a scale bar underneath the track. Enjoy!

Looks like it's gonna be about a 66 inch track., the track on this S550 is between 2 and 3 inches wider than the S197. Your scale starts on the edge of the left side rear tire and stops in the center at 72. This about 6 inches difference so about 66in.

Looks about a 76 width overall.

The Cobra Roadster Concept was 75 inches wide but had a 60 track and 100 inch wheelbase.

The width difference can be seen here...

67" track sounds more like it....

Looks like Edmunds confused track for width. Do these guys really know cars?

Yes sir, I had heard the 10% less number was taken from the S550's track and was assumed track and width were the same. The S550 looks like it's gonna have around 65-66 inch track width and about 75-76 inch width using close to a 107 wheelbase.

I am tellin' ya now, with that wheelbase and that track, this thing is gonna be sturdy.

Lots of sweatin' goin' on now in Chevy land...

It's also worth noting that those measurements are about an inch larger than the Corvette Stingray. (106.9WB 73.9 Width, 62.8/61.6 Track).

I'm willing to be those S550 measurements are a little off no doubt, but, like it or not... The S550 and C7 have similar wheelbase, track and width. I bet the S550 is 181 inches long to be exactly the same length as the M3. With Control Blade IRS, the backseat is possible.

But lighter than the C7? With it using CF/aluminum and only 2 seats? I just refuse to believe that.

With those specs it wouldn't be a 10% increase, it would be a 25% price increase at least.

Not 400lbs for the GT, they are bragging about the base Mustang most likely being between 3100-3200lbs. The GT's will not be so easy to lighten... The suspension, brakes, wheels/tires have to be subtracted from that 400lbs (The Z51 package weighs 150lbs.)... Is 250lbs lighter than a 3630lbs 2014 GT believable? I can see Ford doing well in weight loss...

Anyone opposed to a 3380lbs, 450HP GT that starts around $34,000 and has similar wheelbase/track as a C7 Corvette? I'll take one!!!

10% for the GT would be a $3K increase to $34K. If the approx 10% is not across the board, they better put some major separation between the mid level trim (I4?) and the GT.

One interesting possibility is that in addition to the engine and better interior, the GT trim gets more aluminum (therefore lighter) than the lower level trims. That could be a good draw for a larger percentage price increase between V6/I4 and GT.

By the way, anyone else notice they said FASTBACK before the vert.... :headbang:
That would be about $ 4,400 as My 14 is equipped. I saw another article on Facebook stating similar measurements for the 15 as the article here.

I know for a fact that I would do this:

3450 pound GT with 435HP versus 3200 pound I4 turbo with a 350hp tune.

Who wins?

Let's say it's true. At that size and weight you have to start questioning what car is the more apt comparison. The Camaro or the BRZ?

This would mean hypothetically that the 2015 S550 is going to look like no other pony car out there for at least a full year. Even after, we know the Camaro is going to get lighter but is it really going to shed that much in length/width. There has always been parity between these two cars.

Do we see start to see them go in different directions?

for them to lose no weight or only minimal weight in the face of CAFE would be stupid with a new platform taking them into 2023-25. if for no other reason they had to find a way.

seems like the S197 will be boats in comparison and they will b known as the heaviest mustangs ever made.
