Actually the wiring ran through the tube itself. The fix for the weather stripping was to remove it and insert a thin piece of cardboard (file folder thickness) shaped in a 'V'. Pop the weather stripping back in and viola. Did mine back in 2018 and it's been fine since...I think I actually saw that on CDC website or somewhere similar. Additionally light does not activate with the top up as long as the switch is installed which was relatively simple since you have to remove trim panels for install anyway. Some like the look some don't..I like it and many have asked and admired the look locally. YMMV.I have the CDC bar on my 17 vert, paid around 440 IIRC. Back at the time I bought it, in 17, the lighted version was the only one available, so I never hooked up the wiring. Fast forward 4 years and now the bar needs replaced or removed. In the plastic covering on the bar itself, there is a groove cut into it underneath to gain access to the light itself, well there is a strip of rubber weather-stripping that fills in that groove and over time it shrinks and does not fit anymore and looks unsightly. I want to see a non lighted version, to make sure it doesn't have that same groove and weather stripping before I plunk down another 4 bills for a new one.
