I think we need to accept one reality, if the v8 only sold to "true v8 people" then it would either cease to exist or be a much more expensive option. That segment is much smaller than the total sales today indeed. Ford has to position the v8 to a larger audience for it to make business sense. We are not talking about a Lamborghini here, the gt500/gt350 is the "true v8 people" car (or a modded gt). And to make it viable it has to be efficient or cost effective to some degree.+1 (True V8 people would buy a V8 if it got 10 MGP, stop whining and enjoy!)
This argument would have been very short had there not been statements about the v8 getting increased mileage. But I do find it a bit ironic that the very (potential) buyers that you are complaining about as an enthusiast who look at all of the aspects and still end up buying are likely the reason this type of car is still produced at a reasonable price today.
