I definitely don't car too much about the numbers. I would like to get 20+mpg average on my commute though. I'm guessing beating the numbers given this year should be pretty easy, at least as compared to previous years. I can't imagine the engine is actually using more fuel than last year.

So, data from the "real world' will be more interesting to me than a specifically conservative EPA estimate.

It really really really depends on drive conditions. If I'm just "commuting" to work (sometimes I take the train, sometimes I drive) I get less than 10 mpg -- it's a five mile drive with at least sixty stoplights (one city block is 1/20th of a mile) and I almost never get above 20 mph despite having to constantly get on power to cut ahead of other cars to change lanes around construction blockages. The drive takes 18 minutes if there's no traffic and I hit the lights right; can take up to an hour and fifteen minutes in heavy traffic. If I'm just on the highway, I top 30 mpg. Real world driving conditions bear no relationship to the EPA testing.

That's not really a fair statement. Your real world driving conditions bear no relationship to the EPA testing. However, the intent of their testing cycle is to try to replicate a broad cross section of everyone's, not just New Yorkers that are crazy to try to drive anywhere. They really are trying to design the test to be as close to real world as possible.

Where it falls down is how to determine what the most suitable cross section would be. I know that in my own driving cycle, I've typically been on the high end of the EPA's ratings. In several cars, my combined use matched or exceeded the EPA highway (not the case with my V8 Mountaineer, but it almost always has a bike on the roof). But my commute is more highway than not, and certainly doesn't have 60 stoplights in 5 miles. And you and I are both reasonably close to sea level. Folks in the western states are at a bit higher elevation, even before getting into the mountains. So, there's a lot of variation, and that all brings us back to "YMMV"...

Why would anyone endure such torture every week? :faint:

I can't work any place else since Wall Street only exists here. And it's easier than taking the train, most days, although a daily commute does cost me $43 a day for parking and tolls, while the train is only $5... but the convenience is worth it.

In regards to people saying about what did we expect about the GT fuel economy...

As technology improves, you expect something to get better...not go backwards.

At least these #s could have stayed the same but they didn't. I expected a 1MPG improvement. But that didn't happen either.

To me that is going BACKWARDS.

This gives Chevy even more incentive to one up Ford and embarrass them. Ford's already taken multiple media hits on the weight gain. Now the fuel loss is starting to show up in various news outlets like USA Today with disappointing headlines.

People expect PROGRESS.

I believe this is about reporting things more accurately and more reflective of real world numbers. Avoiding the lawsuits, bad PR, and settlements that Ford has gone through recently. Real world numbers will tell the real story if we actually went backwards. I highly doubt it, but maybe it would be best to wait and see.

The current car wasn't rated at 2007 epa regulations. One it came out in 2010. Two every car gets retested every year, not just model refreshes. And if there is a clause in there about nothing changing in the vehicle then it can carry over the mpg rating, then even in that case if EPA ratings change, vehicles get retested. Nothing has changed going from 2014 to 2015.
I was referring to MY current car, sorry if that was not clear. MY 2007 MKZ was rated 18/26 under the old system, which is probably similar to 16/25 under the new rules, and likely my real-world mileage is not going to change much when I change cars.
