My contact at SA told me they stopped R&D on it and will most likely not be making one. hope its not true. :frusty:
That does not surprise me. The setup we did on Tony's car ended up running around $3200. That was with me eating about half the labor I actually had in it too. When you look at that cost versus what you can purchase a factory R trans and cooler components it makes it hard to go into production with something that isn't cost competitive. I will say though that the thermostatically controlled setup is a better option than the longer warm up times that R setup would have, especially for those of you that primarily street drive. We were also able to fit a slightly larger cooler core than what the factory R cars had as well.

I have the cooler kit on order and I'm waiting to get the approval to buy the transmission (the Ford Performance parts). According to Isaac at Ford Performance, they expected to get info from Tremec before the new year on when transmissions would be available, but there have been some delays due to the holidays.

Autonation White Bear in MN is local to me and they said the transmission would be $2700 through them, so that's where I plan to buy. They can also drop ship the transmission if you aren't local to them.

I like to disassemble things.
The transmission Ford sent me came strapped to a pallet and was fairly heavy. Make sure to arrange to be home for delivery if you can. Let the shipping company know that they need to narrow down the delivery time and that expecting you to be at home, waiting between the hours of 9am to 5pm is unacceptable.

I thought you'd go with the Quaife sequential trans. I keep eying the sequential trans and plan on one.

Yeah, if true, that sucks... I'm not the only one here that was looking forward to what SA might come up with especially in light of the cooler only "kit" from FP, supposedly to address cooling in the Tech or Base GT350, that includes parts we don't need (if we don't want to change out a perfectly good transmission) and omits parts we do need to make effective use of the cooler once installed..

And that it's a residential delivery and lift-gate is required. (aka no loading dock)

Looks like I will be putting mine together from aftermarket parts, based on what Ford and Shelby now plan. Since I have my diff cooler in and working great, the trans is the next plateau with the lessons I learned from the differential.

Yeah, I think I linked it elsewhere, George from MGW and I looked at a number of them in detail at PRI. Here's George banging away at what is the "closest-ready" sequential for a GT350 swap (needs a remote shifter, crossmember mount mods, clutch mods, etc) that Quaife has. Absolutely badass...

If I had my druthers, I'd yank the factory 5.2 from my car and sell it along with the TR3160. In it's place, a pieced together FPP cross plane 5.2, with a medium boost Whipple (with an emphasis on cooling) and Quaife sequential arrangement. That would be one heck of a hairy ride, right up until the engine explodes a searing ball of hellfire.

Sounds like good advice. I will just pick mine up from the dealer, since that seems more convenient than waiting around for it to be shipped to the house.

Seems like a good way to go. I'm planning to put a cooler onto the diff as well. I assume that will be the next failure point, and since there's no temperature sensor there, I won't have a warning that there's a problem.

Here's what we know:
Transmission cooling issue
Buy new transmission 4800 add cooling unit 650 or
Buy cooling unit 650 and add Weldon pump 600 probably voids warranty because Weldon pump not part of the kit

Differential cooler won't work you can't get it to talk to PCM
No solution for that

No bigger throttle bodies
No track key
No recall parts yet for possible oil leak

Shelby's solution add a 200 dollar air scoop to cool transmission

Ford knows there's an issue that's why all 2017 have the coolers
The solutions are half baked and pricey

Good summary.
One suggested correction - adding cooler wouldn't void entire warranty, any failures related to the cooler and associated parts wouldn't be covered.

IMO, some guys on this forum seemed to have done an exceptional job solving '15 & '16 Base/Tech cooling problems in a time honored, methodical way. I don't see them half baked.

I'm waiting on a return email from Holinger RD6. Have you had the chance to see the Holinger at PRI? What was your impression?

I called today. The transmission will be here Monday, and they will call 30 minutes ahead. The weight of the shipment is 187 pounds!!

Totally agree on that, but i'm so disgusted with this whole cooling issue thing that i don't feel like spending any xtra cash for a tranny when the one in my car does the job just fine minus the cooling part.

BTW Jim, got my box in the mail, it's all good. Thx
