Just want to get an opinion on if their is an advantage or disadvantage to going with 20’s instead of 19’s. It’s sucks that premium GTs come with base model 18 inch rims , but I’m going to get a new setup soon.

Premium GTs have a few wheel options, so your question doesn't make sense.

You can't just ask 20s vs 19s, there's lot of other variables to be considered. It's not like you would just roll into your local rim shop and ask for 20s and be done.

What are you trying to accomplish?

If just for looks, either are fine and it's 100% personal taste how much sidewall you want to see. Most like the look of 20's.

Performance- lighter is better, so 19's would be better choice in general. 19x10 is a common setup I've seen here that works well without having to deal with extended studs or spacers.

You live in California. So 22 in rims are mandatory. Well, if you live in LA county.

The rubber selection is generally better in 19. But that will change in a couple more years probably.

If you read a few hundred threads in this forum you'd come across a not trivial number of people who hate the ride quality of 20.

My premium 21 came with 20s and I think they feel and look great. I’m switching them out for a much lighter wheel. These things are heavy….

Just going through the same thing here. Decided on 19’s to give me a bit more sidewall to deal with Massachusetts crappy roads.

Edit: here are the Velgen 19x10/11 combo going on tomorrow after the ceramic coating has cured overnight 👍

20x10 here with 285/35 tires. Ride quality is actually quite good for 20’s. Next go around I may go with 19x10 with a 275/40 tire just because we have a good amount of potholes coming out of the winters. But other wise have zero complaints with the 20’s and I love the look

I’ve got a set of 20’s ready to bolt on my Mach 1 as soon as it returns from the shop. Not all 20s are heavy. Mine a considerably lighter than the factory 19’s, 24.2 lbs for a 20x11.5” wheel. I will say the options for 20” with a 30 aspect ratio pretty much sucks. PS4 is about it unless you want nitto. Nothing wrong with the Michelins but wish there were more choices. 19” has tons of options but doesn’t look as cool. Imho.

I had the factory 20s on my 19 GT. Looked good, ride was better than I expected. If your roads have potholes than maybe chose 19s for the extra side wall. Around me they aren’t bad, but that was one thing I was worried about.

20x10 front and 20x11 rear. The ride did go down a little bit when I switched from my factory PP wheels but not much. And I think they look much better IMHO..

Overall effective drive ratio is a factor as well. No matter what size you go with, your overall tire diameter will go up. A 305/30 20 will be taller than a 305/30 19. You’d have to get extreme with the ratio to keep a certain diameter. And with an auto car, I don’t know if this is a big deal or not. Just a thought. Yes, 20’s will fill up the fender more, but it also in effect, gives you taller gearing. Very very minimal, but still a factor that hardly ever gets brought up. These cars are geared pretty darn tall from the factory anyways; I’m not a fan of adding to that.

Staying on a 19”, I went from 35’s to 30’s and that was a no kidding, seat of the pants, noticeable performance improvement. Some of it could have been weight, handling improvements from the lower profile, and maybe a touch of placebo, but still, an acceleration improvement none the less. You can always address the fender gap with springs, not with tires.

Still on the fence but I think I’ll go with 19’s cause if the bad roads here... Now If can only find what color rims goes well with a Twister orange mustang other than black 🤔
