I am not sure if there are any other subforums related to the issue I am having and I apologize if there are!!

I have a Barton shifter installed in my car and I get a terrible grinding feel and sound about 75% of the time I shift from 1st-2nd. It really is a terrible feeling shift and is really shitty. I love driving my car but I really want my shifts to feel smooth and confident. This is definitely not what i am getting now.

Has anybody else experienced this problem? It also happens in some other gears just not as bad as the 1-2 shift. I think I just need to take it into the dealership and ask what they think. I am hoping they dont just blame it on the aftermarket shifter because I cant imagine that is the problem. I am thinking of changing out trans fluids with some very high quality fluid.

Any suggestions you have are helpful!!

I don't have any problems on the 1-2 shift. I don't recall reading about others with this problem either. I have a really notchy 5th gear, but the guys here say it's normal.

It might be worth uninstalling your shifter so you don't get blamed for anything unnecessarily. Head over to the dealership and make an appointment to take your car in. Keep us posted.
Good luck, man.

2nd gear, 2nd gear side of the synchronizer assembly and the 2nd gear synchronizer ring are common failures in the MT82 unit.

for multiple syncs, google clutch drag and test to see if you have that. I wouldn't change the transmission fluid at this point.

Let us know what you find, mine has an audible grind and the shifts in and out of first and second are aggressively jumpy. But no tactile grinding in the shifter. Occasionally reverse has vibration that's pretty bad.

Get some good trans fluid in there and a Steeda trans bracket.

So I took it to the dealership and told them about my issue. They drove it around and looked under the car at the clutch and trans and said there is no problem. This is good and bad to me, good because there is no damage to my car but bad because the grinding problem is very persistent.

They also told me to just keep breaking the car in, it's only at about 6500 miles... I am hoping that this problem will just go away but I have trouble seeing that happening.

I am putting a Steeda tri ax shifter in this week to replace my Barton shifter, maybe this will have some affect. If that doesn't help the problem I'm going to replace the trans fluid with some top quality fluid and cross my fingers!!

I have exactly the same symptoms and was told exactly the same thing. I will just install my mods and hope that it improves the grind

I was just driving my car really hard after it was warmed up and weirdly I feel like it is better while and after I drove it hard. The problem seems to happen most when it is cold in the morning and when I am driving it like a normal car and not the beast that it is...

I don't always drive it hard though as it is my daily but I found it interesting how smooth the shifts were after some spirited driving... Hmmm

I have had my car about 3 weeks now (10,000 miles) and it has all the same problems especially when cold.
I have the BG fluid on the way and soon to be TriAx. I hope that fixes it.
I have a 2010 GT500 that I have gone through 2nd gear issues since day 1. I was hoping this car would have been different.
Frustrating to say the least.

I'm having the same issue (1-2 grind) when cold. And Ive used Ams oil. Once up 2 temperature it appears to be fine. Was told it was "normal operation of the mt-82". I worked at a dealership as a tech and never once was I told to look for ways of getting out of covering something under warranty. Sad that ford does this to its customers.
