It is absolutely terrible looking, but there's no getting around that performance. It makes me want to hold off on ordering a 16 coyote and wait to see how Ford responds.
Yep. Me too (two? Three? Three thousand?).

Saw all this unfolding before the 15 S550 came out.

Like the idea of seeing what Ford comes up with for different types of cars of S550's in the very near future. They already have the 350 so you know there's more on the drawing board.

Come 17 or 18 that's when it's likely I'll strike (Cobra pun intended)...

I don't think the LT1 is maxed out from the factory. Intake, tune, exhaust, cam etc all give great gains. I do think the 5.0 can make more power gains per $. EXCEPT cam since the LT1 only has 1, it is much cheaper.

Ford definitely could compete at equal performance for the same price. It's isn't a matter of engineers not being able to put out a mustang to go 12.3 @116 for 37K. It's a business decision. They are counting on demand being more strongly influenced by the price gap(whether perceived or actual) rather than the performance gap. I think this is the better decision.

Most customer's add in some options, at which point the price gap becomes smaller while the performance gap remains the same unless you got PP. However, I think that most people will see the starting MSRP and have it stuck in there mind that the Camaro is always at least 4K more expensive. Probably not the case, but just going by these threads, there are at least some that believe this.

IMO
GM should have offered a cheaper lower optioned base SS. And Ford should offer a higher performance(at least straight line) GT between the GTPP and GT350.

I guess the only problem is I don't have any money to buy either of these cars so my opinion doesn't mean sh*t. LOL

The LT1 makes about 535hp with open full length headers, maxed out tune with 100 octane fuel. The 2015 Coyote is about the same but with a little less tq. The Coyote does have a faster rate of rpm climb......and is much cheaper than the LT1.

This new camaro is really impressive . I like the big screen where the gauges are and the steering wheel. Kinda looks like a Mercedes on the inside. I also like the v6. 28,000 for a car with 355 hp and 0-60 in 5.0 seconds. I will have to give it to Chevy for this one. I love my ecoboost don't get me wrong, but it will cost a lot of $ to get a 0-60 time of 5.0 seconds or under...
Ummm what?

How is rate of RPM climb calculated and measured? Is it dependent on gearing and load? Is there a number that represents rate of rpm climb?

I know in my off-road days that a shorter stroke with rev faster. Don't know if that equates to cars tho, but it might.

I actually liked the 16 Camaro interior until someone pointed out the owl boner, and well, I just couldn't get that out of my head.

Here is a C7 with bolt on's and cam swap
http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/engines-drivetrain/2014-chevrolet-corvette-stingray-lt1-cam-swap/
stock 397hp@5900 395tq@4600
full bolt on's and cam 471hp@6100 424tq@4900

Others could be more but the dyno's probably start higher as well so a gain of 74 hp and 29 tq
29 pk TQ sounds pretty weak. This article is from May '14. I'm guessing that the aftermarket has improved since then and will continue to based on the much higher volume of LT1s that will be out there once the Camaros start shipping.

At first that seemed very low until I read it and saw how small that cam is compared to stock. It's not nearly a max effort cam. Cammed lt1 cars can hit 500whp easily.

I would still expect header and tune to net more than 29TQ.

Yeah theres a lot of potential with the LT1 in regards to cams and what not. The cam on the LT1 is very small from the factory. I believe this was done to help with emissions. Plus DI and the higher compression helps quite a bit.
