I've been using 87 octane for the last year or so. Why pay $1 more per gallon if I'm just cruising around? But i do the occasional 0-60 on the accelerometer and 6.2 is about the best I can do.
Now with prices down, I put some 93 in and can run easy 5.7's. Maybe better, with a little experimentation in a more rural setting.
What a difference, (in the butt-o-meter, too)! The sensors and VVT are obviously doing their job.
Hoping to take it to the drag strip when it opens and see what she will do.

Proof how much better 93 is. 0.6 sec is significant.

You're not tuned either right?

Pretty huge difference there and I definitely won't be going back even if it saves some money, it's just more fun driving with the tune and 93. Wonder what sort of numbers I would get.

Yes, stock car with the 2355517's. T/C on, shifter in sport, auto shifting. I bring it up to about 2k rpm's, then release the brake and floor it. That's just enough to barely break traction, then she goes.
Might play around with the technique a little, but that's what worked best when I had my 12 sec., '91 'vette and did a lot of 1/4 mi passes.
Certainly not earth shattering, but this car is a lot of fun (and probably won't get me into trouble lol).

The EB definitely needs 93 octane. I own a 2016 one..
I've pumped 93 octane since day one of ownership, now at 80k miles , still kicking.

This run was done just today. NO LAUNCH used (I dont like using launch because I dont drag my car and at any other times while driving and taking off never launch either = more realistic ), just put it in S mode and let the tranny shift. If i would have short shifted at 5500 rpms AND launched I would have gotten 5.5- 5.6 sec. Outside temps 74F (temps matter) lol oh and 1/2 tank of fuel.

I guess the V6 also needs the higher octane to perform best...

Just an FYI that Ecoboost power numbers have been rated for 93 the whole time, V6 is still rated at 87 but performs better on 93. Boosted cars always perform better on the higher octane gas, some of them have crazy improvements on E85 alone.

Of course I know that.
On 87 octane the EB makes about 280 HP, keeping same torque....
Those EB owners pumping 87 will never do a sub 6 sec 0-60 unless its a very cold night..otherwise they range within 6.2-6.4 sec.
OP stated that HIS BEST 0-60 was 6.2 on 87, and like EB owners pumping 87, there are plenty others with the v6 who report mid 6 seconds.
Temperature is a huge factor to take into account as welll. OP lives in IL, perhaps his run was done on a cold night if it was done recently?. Mine was on a 75 F night...no launch used.
My point is, the v6 might also need 93 to be a sub 6 seconds car...
Both are rated 5.5 sec 0-60...only the 2018's + are doing 4.9 - 5.3 sec and 13.3 -13.5 1/4 miles under good conditions...

Sent this to my friend, he runs 87 all the time and he's planning on getting his car tuned soon (GT TB+JLT CAI)

Wanna save him from getting an 87 file, unless he can do that and a 93
Forget the TB and CAI. Buy a tuner and tunes package from Unleashed Tuning. It's amazing how much that motor wakes up with his tune. Octane alone doesn't make much difference. The factory Ford tune is complete and utter sh*t.
