Can you fit 285/35R19 RE71R on the front tires on the stock PP rims? How pinched are they?
From everything ive read, you can fit them fine, but the clearance to the strut is very close. Maybe a small (5mm) spacer would do the trick...im just going to run 275 squared for ease of tire swaping.

For running in the rain - RE-71Rs or Potenza S-04 Pole Position (more regular summer street tire with TW280 I think) ?

Depends. Compound trumps tread design in wet/damp until dealing with standing water.

I would choose RE71R unless it's a monsson.

I would always take full tread RE71R's over the S-04's

San Diego Match Tour update: Mustangs first, third and fourth in an eight-deep class. Mark Scroggs won in my EB, with last year's F Street runner-up a second behind, me in third, a 5.0 in fourth.

Match tour format combines fast morning time with fast afternoon time on the same course. Matt Ales, the BMW driver who finished second at Nats, was breaking in a set of Rivals that cost him a much closer finish.

Comparing fast times for the day, rather than by heat:
Scroggs: 49.269
Ales: 49.664
Me: 49.992
Hawrylkiw: 50.914

Taking nothing away from Mark, but the loose surface and ultimate speeds probably favored the EB in a way that few Nats-style courses will. El Toro probably a better gauge. Mark paxed 8th of 151 and would have been 4th if car were classed DS as proposed.

Good news is that the shocks (custom DA courtesy of Chris Cox) really seemed to help transitionally.

Good to hear the car can still be competitive at the nats level.

I brought out a pro-driver buddy who races in IMSA (Matt Bell) to the last autox on Sunday at Marina. His first autox in 15 years and first time driving the mustang. He was about 1.5 seconds behind Richard Jones/Sean O'boyle in the e92 (re71r's) in my car on stock pirelli's. Im still about a second behind that. Pretty happy with my progress since a few months ago...finally starting to "get" this car.

Whats everyones opinion on the star specs instead of the 71r's? I know they are at least a second slower, but im considering getting them because ive heard they last about twice as long(and im probably not fast enough to take full advantage of the bridgestones anyways). I would probably daily drive on them for a while until i can get another set of wheels. Has anyone run them on an s550? What kind of mileage did you get out of them?

Also, who here will be at the pro tour at crows later this month? It will be my first pro event...im excited!

Got a set, mounting them tomorrow. What does everyone run for pressure on the 275/35R19 RE71R?

Interested in Autox pressures, but also street pressure for longevity. I have a set pf street tires on the way, but they wont be here for a couple of months, so the RE71 is going to be a daily driver too for a bit. (Cue the torrential rain)

I've got about 200 autocross runs and over 10K miles on 1 1/2 sets of 275/35x19 RE-71Rs on my GT PP. Autocross pressures are not very picky with people getting good results between around 28 - 34 F and 28 - 30/32 R at the start of each run. For normal street driving the factory spec 32 psi cold seems fine but don't worry if at the end of an autocross day you have lower cold pressures due to bleeding pressures between runs. I have not rotated F to R or in/out (flipped) but do have the FS legal camber mod so just over -2 deg neg camber in front and middle of the factory specs in the rear. Toe is nominal factory spec front and rear.

For those of you planning on installing Koni Sport shocks in the rear be prepared to enlarge the nominal 10 mm hole in the oem upper mount to nominal 12 mm. A 1/2" drill worked fine today for me. Koni indicated that the 12 mm shaft is needed since it is hollow for the internal adjustment shaft which therefore requires greater outer shaft diameter for sufficient strength. The shocks do not come with bump stops or dust covers so you will need to transfer those.

Koni indicates units for public sale are due soon but I don't know when. I got an early set of production units. Based on info from Koni (Lee Grimes) these have more low shaft speed compression than the "make do" solution some of us used last year and, of course, are the correct dimensions and have the correct lower mount compared to the "make do". Rebound range is similar.

Koni indicated that the Sport strut rebound valving is very similar to the DA insert valving some of us used last year with the compression (bump) of the struts being about mid range on the DA inserts.

I only have about 15 mostly smooth road miles on the rears so far but as expected from Koni the ride is fine and the apparent "control" is MUCH better than the oem PP units I took off (the "make do" shocks haven't been on the car since last Fall).

The ride with DA strut inserts set mid range is fine also, even with a GT PP on RE-71Rs so it should be fine also with the Sport struts.

I haven't commented on the performance aspects because I think we all know that Koni Sport are HUGE improvement from oem and anything that might be better is major $$$$. :-)
