Got my shoulder repaired while I am down. Broke my humerus when I was in high school and it healed a bit weird. Ended up getting a bunch of bone shaved off and removed some arthritis in my AC joint.
So, limping around and can barely hold stuff. it's been a good time

As someone that has had both rotator cuffs repaired you have my deepest sympathies. Hopefully this isn't your dominant side as that would give shit, shower, shave a whole new experience!Got my shoulder repaired while I am down. Oof, I'm going through this now. Tore my AC joint from a motorcycle crash years back, didn't heal right, now it hurts on and off every week.

Unfortunately its my right arm - so its been a little journey back in time to high school when I originally injured it. hasn't been fun, TBH. But its nice that they were able to shave it clean
I was super bummed to miss out this year. But I'll be back next summer. With COTA going private, I'll be traveling more next year.
Turns out the docs were right - it does get worse with age
I'd been fighting it for years - finally gave in this year to get it fixed properly since it affected my ability to workout. Hope you're able to get yours fixed!

Been doing some additional cooking
So for the last couple years I've been dreaming of a carbon door solution for the S550 chassis. And I mean a real race car carbon door - with integrated window frame so you can have a removable lexan window and a functional, but finished door card. I've seen the likes from Anderson, but they're just a carbon copy (pun intended) of the OEM door - which is disappointing for $3k. The GT4 doors of course are supposedly available, but I've been told they're $4k each. I can ruin a lot of carbon and burn a lot of CPU threads for $8k.
So here we are. This will probably turn out terribly, but I've taken on bigger (and stupider projects). let's see where it leads us.
So looking carbon doors - I have two ideas I'm juggling. First, is the GT4 carbon door. Sexy - but there's a decent amount of space inside that door cavity that could be utilized. Some folks have cages that stick out and or you're like me and have your brake/clutch reservoirs there on the drive side and radio on the passenger.
So that let me to look further and find this - a 996 GT3 Cup car door. the pocket gives space for the cage/extras. Leaning this way at the moment
I've started playing around a bit in Fusion based on my scans. I'll never claim to be more than a monkey with access to a keyboard and mouse in CAD, so I am going to heavily favor function over form.
First, here's a very rough draft of the interior side. I need to simplify the angles on the interior shelf to simplify the layup and de-molding. but gives an idea of what I am going with. the big question I have right now is whether to make that shelf a removable insert (like the GT4 door) or all one piece. One piece is one fewer molds, but less flexibility in overall shape and iterations from door to door. hmm
And i've started modeling the frame for the window - this was mostly just to start playing with forms and matches profiles. I need to re-do it to fit the inside of the door
Some assumptions:
1. I will not be using OEM mirrors, interior opener lever-thing, or hinges. I will go with my lightweight APR mirrors, a pull rope, and quick release hinges (will need to design those)
2. Will 3d print my mods, glue them to OEM doors, do some finishing (paint, bondo, etc.) and then make fiberglass molds
3. needs to have a service door for the oem door latch mechanism (similar to the porsche doors)
Would love ya'lls feedback on design, any quality of life recs, and anything I might be missing (outside of my sanity - that's long gone).

made some progress on my window frame tonight. however, because im a dunce, I scanned two different doors. so I need to re-scan the passenger door tomorrow and then transfer my door card over so I can align the meshes and properly joined these two pieces.

I just gotta say, this is really cool Kevin. I used to be serviceable with CAD but it’s been a long time. I like the updated pocket design, flows with the door more (not sure if that really matters), but should provide what you need with the cage, wiring, etc.
Regarding the window area, do you plan to keep it similar in size to a stock window or are you planning to raise the door a bit (à la Camaro)? I assume you’d use some kind of quick releases to be able to pop the window out when needed. Cool project for sure

The window frame in the last photo perfectly matches the existing window frame. however, the actual opening will be slightly smaller due to the frame to support the lexan.
Window will be removable via screws that go into rivnuts. I plan to run the window the majority of time -only want it removable so events that throw a huge fit about windows will be happy. I prefer cars with windows
