Burble tunes are a lot like tattoos. If after receiving a tattoo the only person who could see said tattoo, regardless of location, was the owner then there wouldn't be many tattoos. If the only person who could hear the burble was the owner, wouldn't be many of those tunes in existence.

And how about flipping the air cleaner cover over to get that BWAAAAAH sound on the old 4 barrel Quadrabogs when you stomped on it😆
I mean, that's how they were supposed to go, right???

I’m 26 and think the burble tunes are dumb as hell. As do my buddies, and we have thought that for years. They’re not even a young guy thing, they’re a dumbass thing. Every time I hear one I think nice dude you’re running that thing rich, I’m sure the carbon deposits love it.

It's BMW and Audis here... baaaad
From this side of the pond, I will also add VW and Seat / Cupra (and the occasional Mercedes) to that list ...

I assure you that the factory burble tune on the Camaro is not the same thing I hear out my back door.
Whilst I agree 100% with what you are saying, the way you worded it made me smile ... :giggle:

The 'burbles' are a completely different league to the 'firework' (I don't hear gunshots over here) loud bangs that they produce.

It also seems like most people with these tunes cant even drive at a constant speed on the motorway - on and off the gas constantly to achieve maximum effect ...

This👆

I am 68 and love the sound of a nice V8 with headers and a good resonated exhaust system. I go to a lot of car shows and see many guys in my age group with their M-whatever, or AMGs and those stupid burble tunes trying to look hip and cool but when I role in with my Bullitt or my C5, I get more guys coming over and looking at my car and telling me how good it sounds with the LTH and on the Bullitt, the active exhaust. I get more questions about the active exhaust than anything as guys love the Quiet mode to get in and out of the hood without pissing off everyone and sounding like a jacka$$ and then cracking it into Normal or Track and hearing the Coyote howl.

I remember adding glass packs to my car as a kid. Dumb modification? YES!
I had a 155hp Nissan (240SX) where 1 glasspack was dumb and loud, but 2 of them in series were just right. 😁
I lived at the foot of a mountain range, and found that I could go uphill in 5th gear where I used to need 4th. 😃 Another 240SX owner felt the torque and thought the midrange was suspiciously strong, and maybe I shouldn't do autocross in a stock class. 😆 It reminded him of when he "used to" cheat.

I wish I could have dyno'ed that car before my (now ex-)wife wrecked it. 😞

The dumbest modification in my life was when I bought another 240SX and found that a previous owner had installed a 4-into-1 header on it. That's how you make a 240SX louder without going any faster. In my head I wondered, Did this guy hate torque? Was he trying to make it gutless like a Civic?
And he'd spliced into the electrical system of a Nissan, a car that really doesn't take that well.

Everything I changed on that car, every mod I undid, made it run better and go a little faster.

I'm not gonna be the old geezer that bitches. I ran open headers on my older mustangs a few times. There's a time and a place for cutting up and a time to be cool while showing off. I often hear the Mustangs and other cars, motorcycles, trucks, etc. that run near my house. I agree with people interested in building their vehicles the way they see fit. It's like an art of some sort. Although I laugh at the squatted trucks...

It's funny...

20-25 years ago, if you car backfired, you got made fun of for having a shit tune.

And then it turned into the big power guys getting a backfire during a shift. If someone popped a fireball during a shift it meant they had a straight-through exhaust and were probably making some power.

(my car isn't big power but it has blower/headers and sometimes cracks on the 1-2 and 2-3 shift)

And now you get people who want backfires/pops ALL THE TIME when they decel

imagine what learning to ride could do! It was more of a track side joke, but a bit of honesty in it.
thank you- I was going to say something similar. rode sportbikes piped for over 20 years and still had close calls every week.
I wasn't that a-hole sitting in traffic announcing to the rest of the cars that I was there. nothing worse than a biker doing that....

Now that mentioned it it’s the same around here in MA too but it’s mostly the ricers/imports. And of course those fart can mufflers are common too.😆
Ar the Patriot Place car shows those euro trash cans stop in front of us to do their popping. If I wasn't working the shows I would rip them a new azzhole. No need fo draw that kind of attention to yourself when amongst the massive gathering just to try impressing folks who don't give a shit about your beater.

The mentality on the road has shifted. Drivers of all kinds will speed up, pull alongside me, and then slow down just to show off that they’ve got “the tune.” For anyone who’s seen the South Park episode “The F Word,” it’s the same behavior the show mocked — not the slur, but the idea of people demanding attention by making noise. In that episode, the Harley riders kept revving their engines because they wanted the world to acknowledge them. That’s exactly what these burble‑tune drivers are doing now: chasing approval through obnoxious sound.
This^^^ When I was a kid in my teens and 20's, I set some World Records for being a dumbass. Headers on old beater cars. Harleys that needed PigMats and all the bolts tightened after an hour riding time. (Pigmats and Loctite didn't exist in the Dark Ages.) And yes, this was at least in part, for the attention. It was a declaration of being alive, living in a free country, and letting my freak flag fly! While several of us have singled out the burble tune of today, it's just a variation of the cable cut-outs and long hair from my youth. I had a couple uncles who were into cars (And Harleys) that gave me crap for some of the things I did. But, they would HELP ME when I needed help. They were quick with good advice that came with a load of sarcasm!

I try to encourage these younger guys who show up at events with burble tunes or Ricer Specials. At least they are into CARS! Real ones!! That they have modified!! Trust me, most of them truly appreciate when that older guy with the S550 gives them even the time of day.

The ones with the white sunglasses and man purses.... It depends on their car. But I draw the line at a top knot!!

Back in the early 60s during the summer months , the guys cruised the Loop Renton to Seward Park in Seattle , the Cars were from Cruisers to Drag , and some were all out obnoxious loud and revving and running in 2 nd gear . She liked Hot Rods , but always told me wise words to live by .
She would say J " the empty can raddles the loudest" 😁 it took me a bit to figure out what she was talking about...
There's a time and place for everything , I Drag Raced for for 28 years both my parents joined me for years til they got up in age . The sound of a high revving Small Block open headers she loved .
