Just to clarify, with a stock grille this requires opening up the honeycomb to get the necessary flow for this to work to its potential, correct?

That is correct, maximum flow through the ram air duct when you remove the hex flats.

I'm a tiny amount concerned about snow ingestion with opening that up all the way. Guess we'll have to see.

And rain, don't want my panel filter getting all wet
That shouldn't really be a problem. You won't hydrolock an engine unless you basically submerge the filter. Snow, on the other hand, packs up and will cause significant restriction.

The panel filter is at the top of the box. So you would need to ingest enough snow or water to fill the tube coming in, the resonator in the first segment of tube, then the bottom of the intake box... Basically you would need to dip the grille of the car in a lake. In such a case I think you should worry about evacuating out of the car, and not the panel filter getting wet. :)

Oh, and the filling would have to take place quicker than the water drains out the bottom.

See my post above. I am only concerned with it getting packed up with snow and severely restricting airflow. It happens on heavy trucks all the time.

I'm thinking that if the snow is that bad it packs up your intake track it won't make any difference if there's a velocity stack there.

If it snows that bad you shouldn't drive that beauty anyways

No but if you open up all the grille honeycomb flats to take advantage of the big mouth, you could have a problem. It's unlikely, but could happen.

Mine is a DD so not driving in the winter isn't an option.

I don't think this seals tightly into the intake path, but I can see your concern. Velossa Tech should be able to better address it.

i havent driven it in the heavy snow as I live in florida, so I cant guarantee. What I can say is I find that highly unlikely, you would need to be going 100 mph and WOT to suck in enough snow to really cause a problem. Even then it would eventually melt out since it is hot near the airbox.

I would say you will be ok.

Who says I wouldn't be? :D

Kidding of course. It's probably fine, I just know these cars were tested for that and I can't be sure if the grille is blocked off so much for drag benefits or snow intrusion or both. Probably the former. That duct should stay warm enough, and if not, a few minutes idling on the side of the road will melt it :).

Mine showed up today:

It's a solid piece, really like it. Hope to get it installed this weekend.

i would like to see how this works with the RTR grille, i think those are much more open and do not have anything in the "triangles". though those triangles are a different shape.
