You've admitted in another forum your 4.10's did not help you at all.
My average 1/4 mile ET improved 6 hundredths and just over 1 mph with the 4.10's vs the factory 3.15's. Not a huge improvement, but the 4.10's certainly did NOT slow my car down.

Building fast cars is about finding the right combination. Sometimes, 4.10's are right for a combination (like my car, for example). Sometimes, other ratios make more sense. YMMV.

anything higher then 3.31 for automatics slow down the car as wel .
I have to disagree. The fastest stock and bolt on car in the fast lists are 3.55 cars. So obliviously a little more gear isn't hurting anything.

The first three autos on the bolt on list are running a 3.15 gear so there goes that theory.

Ideally you gear the car to be in a 1:1 trans gear at peak power RPM in the trap- no overdrive.

Tires, weight, trans., and power curve are all variables to consider. Don't forget traction.

High 1st ratios in the transmission may alter this formula to permit lower gear ratios to be effective. You can also just use rear tire size to get into the "sweet" spot without swapping diffs.

Love how you completely gleaned over the stock list all together to make your point.

Well let's see, four of the top six on the stock list run 3.15's.

The top six power adder autos run 3.15's.

So in conclusion if we go by the list in this forum the 3.15's seem to dominate.

Now I will say your argument for the 3.55's is actually pretty valid. It's when the clueless ones start in with the 4.10's I have a problem.;)

At the track, yes. But we are fortunate to have such a good auto as the 6R80 that is as strong as it is and doesn't need the steep gearing as in past years to run pretty good times. Fast times and decent gas mileage is nothing to complain about.:headbang:

A guy I personally know is running high 10s on 93 octane with 3.31s with cobra jet manifold, cold air intake and full exhaust with stall converter for his automatic, with drag radials. He said anything higher then 3.31 slowed him down. He ran half second slower with 3.73s. Autos engage overdrive way too early with a low rear gear ratio

3.55. Bone stock, 3.31 NA and 3.15 power adder any lower a gear ratio with stock auto even with stall slows you down

My 2011 auto ran a best of 11.2 @ 122 mph with my stock 3.15's N/A. They worked for me.
How about giving us a complete mod list and race weight of your '11 please.

My friend have a GT 2011 A6 with tune, Steeda CAI, Circle D 4000, X pipe with no cats, Dynomax muffler and 3.15 gear. He ran 10.98@122 on DR with 1.48 60' on good DA and between 11.2 to 11.3 on 2000 DA. The 3.15 his the best gear for drag racing with the 6R80.

I love my 6R80, 3.15, & 26" tire combination. Just before the tracks closed and I was getting a hang of it, the car 60'd 1.5 on DR's.

I haven't tried my 28's yet, I may wait until I get a big turbo on there so the top end can rev out under power.
