Oil filter magnet...

Metallic particles that might be caught by a magnet in the oil filter are already suspended in the oil. The magnet would help to remove the particles from the oil stream. My airplane's engine uses an oil filter with a built-in magnet!
However, I replaced the OEM oil pan drain plug with a magnetic one at the first oil change on my 2015 Mustang. A lot cheaper than trying to find an automotive oil filter with a magnet, and the drain plug magnet just needs to be wiped off at each oil change rather than being replaced along with the filter.

The problem is oil filter is metal, and putting magnets on the outside is not gonna be very strong inside where the oil is. Ever seen a magnetically shielded speaker?
A better way to do this is magnetic drain plug.
I think using both is the way to go for the first oil change. My suggestion was more along the line of what one can do until the first oil change

Change early is the key.

I just did my first oil change at 1000, Mobil 1 full syn, and will do 7500 intervals thereafter. Works for me.

gotta link me on this one. I need some details :)
I tried to find the article I read, to no avail.

I'm not going to be doing it in the future, I was just overly paranoid about the tick. I really don't care, no harm comes from the tick, and it really can't be heard inside cabin so...

Just got my first oil change at 1500. They advised against me using the 5w-30, but from what I read the 20 is mainly for fuel economy. Also they said it only takes 7.6 quarts. I double checked the manual and they are correct. I thought I read 8 earlier but I suppose was wrong.

i guess if you're in canada its 7.6 liters, but if you're here in the good ole, US of A, it's 8 quarts bud.

I can totally see it being annoying in the garage, though. I just wanted to get info for when I changed my oil! Thank you

I just did mine at 600 miles. Motorcraft filter FL 500 S. And it will take eight quarts. Best, CB

Every 10k miles with synthetic? I've never had to change the oil early on any of my new cars and they all worked just fine.
also 10,000 miles for me on all my cars, because I follow the manual.

I know this will sound crazy, but I've had mine for a year & have 2300 miles (not what you would call a DD). so Im not sure if 6 / 9 or 12 months is best.
Any thoughts?

The owner's manual says to follow the oil minder on the dash or at least yearly if not reminded before.
