Is the S550 a disappointment?

I really like mine and especially the reaction I get from the car in track mode. I only drive it in track mode now. I've seen some horror stories in this forum but mine seems to be okay other than some paint issues and a terrible service from the dealer I bought it from.

I will buy our next family car from Lexus as I've heard their service is out standing. For my next fun DD I am going to give the Corvette a hard and good look. The problem that I found with them is they're not built for big husky men like myself. The seat isn't wide enough for my back. Same with the CTS-V and ATS-V

I have been a Mustang Enthusiast for a lot of years now. What the Mustang has always been about is individuality, giving it's owner the ability to create whatever they want their car to be.

I have my EcoBoost for daily driving, but I'll mod it to a point that makes sense for how it will used. I have my Shelby for the absolute brute power and limited track events I'll participate in. There's no right or wrong here just individual preferences.

If you want your S550 to outperform a new Camaro SS you can, and still not have as much invested as the Camaro Buyer, just my opinion.

GM took care of the weight issue and got its fans 455 hp and 455 of torque.

Ford increased the weight and didn't compensate appropriately with enough horsepower!

typical argument from a smaller displacement high RPM crowd....it's what the honda guys always used to argue....HP/Liter. A meaningless metric.

the 6.2 is so understressed at 455 HP it's comical. headers, intake, bolt on mod results FAR surpass those of the Coyote. It is so easy and cheap to build big numbers, even NA, on an LS or LT motor vs a Coyote....have you priced building a Coyote stroker or performance motor? It's retarded. That is a big part of the appeal of the small block chevy. why do you think so many end up in mustangs? ;-)

I didn't buy my GT to go racing nor did I buy it just so I could brag about it's 0-60 times on the internet, but then again, I am not a teenager. I bought the car because I love it and it's perfect for what I need it for. If all you care about is the specs on paper then buy the Camaro, it's really not that complicated.

Yes and no. You can always add displacement to have power but its harder to make more power out of a smaller displacement.
Look at the GT350 engine for example.

now let me have my say:... i am not gonna deny, before this gen came out.. i liked camaros more.. reason.. styling factor, engine and looks and value.. but s550 changed my outlook. i have EB premium with no regrets even though m buying gt soon, but interiors are awesome, features and good power output. peope will keep on crying for thing.. but baseline, u r getting good power and styling for your money. I love ss50 and my dad is getting gt350.. he has been mustang loyalist since long time. BUt i am more open for options sots, but s550 has made me true mustang fanboy

Sales-wise we all know it hasn't disappointed, but performance-wise the reactions have been mixed at best. The first and foremost disappointment was the weight increase. The second, lots of fans were expecting at least 450hp and more torque (the Camaro has 455 ft-lbs). Then, it was motor trend that gave the title to the gen-5 Camaro vs the S550 GTPP in a duo comparison. Now, the Camaro 6 has hit the streets and according to Automobile magazine, "brings the ponywars to a new frontier"
The truth is of all the reviews I've read, the Cam6 surprised almost everyone and the Stang6 disappointed quite a few fans and critics.
I was going to save $$ for the GT350 in 2017, but now that they say it's almost impossible to get (I'm not paying a dollar over sticker) I'll probably have to settle for the S550 GT, but after the comparison to the Cam6, I'm starting to think twice (no, I will never own a Camaro) of owning one soon. Will Ford counterattack sooner than expected? If so, how?

Dude. Your currently driving a 2010 Mustang and your disappointed with the S550?????:doh:Get the Camaro if your worried about something being a 10th faster. But be ready to get a new car every year after that. Because sports cars normally don't get slower and don't handle worse as time goes on.

There are tons and tons and tons of bench and magazine racers here. Those #'s seem to double daily. I have never noticed so many people hung up on what a magazine gets for performance #'s and those #'s ruling their life.

Go buy a Camaro and get you a copy of each review from MT, R&T and C&D. Then just walk around and show everyone how bad fast your Camaro is around the water cooler, at the red light, in the grocery store parking lot, etc. I am sure they will love you sharing that info.

Well, first my '10 GT (315hp) beat the new back then Camaro 5 (426) in quite a few comparisons. My car weights around 3,500 lbs and has the track pack. Second, with its torch red paint, it's still a headturner believe or not and a lot of people have asked me if it's new. They can't believe it's a 2010. This is the car I want to start learning how to track. I bought mine back in January because I couldn't afford the S550 premium GT/PP and I was dying to drive a V8 (I always loved the exhaust sound of the 2010). In a year or so, I'll be ready for a $40k plus car, but the mixed performance reviews and the quality issues people are having here in the forum has got me thinking twice.

I've had many Camaro's and Mustangs in the past. My recent Camaro was a 12' 1SS and now i have a 15' Mustang GT. Yea the new Camaro will be faster but to me i could care less. I never go to a track and don't street race.

I got 0% on my GT with better than X-plan pricing, $2000 cash back with a good down payment and the payments are easy to swing every month. I don't want to trade (again) for a another car that will be faster because i don't use the full power and potential of the GT. To me it's not worth starting over again.

To me the GT is an excellent bargain for what you get price wise. I would have to spend lots of more money to get a 2SS Camaro. Yea sure it will beat my car but i could care less. The GT is an all around great car with looks, handling, comfort and excellent power.

HP and Pony wars will continue. Great for the consumer but at some point you have to be happy with something and stop trading for the latest and greatest.
