Tire dressing?

Hi,

Anyone know how to safely dress the tires in the car? I've noticed they start looking like crap pretty quickly (I've heard that tire manufacturers are putting a chemical in them that leeches out and turns brown to keep weather checking at bay). Back in the day, I used to buy the giant aerosol cans that you sprayed on the tires and let the foam do its job, and you were done. I know that the Performance Package wheels are sensitive to some common tire cleaning chemicals...

I tried some squirt spray stuff I picked up at O'Reilly's (Eagle 1 A2Z Wheel and Tire cleaner), and mostly followed the directions (sprayed on the tires, let it sit for 30 seconds, then sprayed it off with water). I neglected step 4 on the bottle, to wipe the tire with a cloth afterwards (didn't want to mess up my car wash towels on the tires!).

Initially the tires looked great, but after drying, the tires took on a greyish brown hue :doh:

whatever you use, don't try the tire wet stuff. that stuff looks great, until it gets on the rims of your PP stang. I am having to get them powder coated because they got so messed up.

this stuff is amazing. goes on really thin and lasts. goes on trim too and makes it look just like it came out the factory. little bit goes along way when apply too. also has from sun as well. this stuff isn't super shiny though, hence the word satin but i love it. I don't like blinging wet look. They have super shiny version if you want it but that would look silly on trim imo.

You skipped the critical step. They all look like crap if you don't buff them down, and they all pretty much look the same if you do. As far as I can tell, the only difference is how long they last.

That said, I recently tried a free sample of Wolfgang Black Diamond Tire Gel I got from Autopia. My tires are still a perfect, satin black, three weeks and 2-3 washes later. I think this will be my new brand whenever I actually need to buy tire shine again.

I use DUB U1319 Tire Shine. VERY shiny.

I made a similar thread a few weeks back. My Mickey Thompsons had a problem getting milk chocolate brown sidewalls when I was using a few different brand tire dressings that were silicone based. I switched to Barrett Jackson brand tire dressing, which is water based, and have had not had the browning return so far (the label specifies it will not brown tires). It too is not super shiny, just gives a clean semi wet sheen look. I am really liking this product so far and I have tried dam near every over the counter tire shine that exists

I use Black Magic Tire Wet and don't have any problems with it, best stuff I have ever used. Never messed up my stock 18's or my current powder coated rims.

True, I use the Meguair's Endurance tire spray thing. Works very well, tires look glossy and super black for a long time. But my PP rims started looking dull, so had to use soap water and lots of energy to clean the dull parts on the rims. So just have to be careful and not to let solution spray on the rims, even a little. I mean its no big deal but you got to spend a good amount of time removing the dullness by wiping with soap water and let the rims shine glossy again.

I've been using Opti-Bond Tire Gel since my car was new. It's water based and I haven't seen any browning with my tires.

In reading all these I didn't see any mention of people using foam tire applicators - those things are a must, and reduce the possibility of you over spraying product on your wheels! And for that reason I don't use the aerosol can products; I've had good luck with Croftgate Tire Wet and Chemical Guys VRP. Both of these are a no-sling formula, and you can use them on the black plastic trim andirons really makes it shine and keeps it looking new.

I use meguiars hot shine tire foam, keeps my tires pretty shiny and rich black I haven't see browning I wash it about every week and a half

I use the same stuff n my 18" Foundry Rims and I wipe anything that gets on the rims. I've had zero problems but yes the tire does turn chocolate brown when it rains and stuff. I just reapply when it gets done at the car wash.
