So will I be ok if I buy the virtical link that you have to offer now as a daily driver? Do I have to clean it or buy a " custom boot" like J burgess 1379 said? Do I have to worry about squeaks and noises?
I've got hundreds, maybe even thousands of customers in your state running our Spherical Bearing Suspension components on everything from 1967 Camaros, to Chevrolet SSR trucks, to '64 Chevelles to 2015 Mustangs and Camaros. (without issues)

I would not fret.

I somehow doubt those 60's chevelles and camaros are running around in the salt. lol

I have had spherical bearings on suspension parts on cars I drive in three seasons here in Chicago. I have had to replace spherical bearings that were several years old and corroded. Even with routine cleaning and lubrication. At least good spherical bearings are not expensive for the sizes we are talking about. It is maintenance just like anything else.

Also, someone makes nitrile dust covers for spherical bearings as well as small side caps. I just did a quick search for a picture (not the ones I was thinking of) so people who are really worried about salty environments could look into these.

There are a few key design parameters you should keep in mind with these bushings and bearings. Compliance/deflection as Kelly mentioned affect multiple aspects of the vehicle - NVH and component deflection being the two major players here.

A general rule of thumb is that the stiffer the component, the harsher it is going to be in regards to NVH.

Bushings provide springing, Delrin provides some shock-load absorption with minimal deflection, and the spherical bearings provide direct force and vibration translation. With each upgrade in stiffness comes a harsher ride and more vibration transmission.

However, compliance and part deflections are the enemy of a racecar :) Any link deflections, bearing tolerances, bushing deflections all stack up to give undesirable geometries and slow system reaction times since you have to wait for each one of those components to deflect before all the force is translated, say in a corner. So in this case, parts such as spherical bearings become ideal - low part deflections and some available joint rotation to minimize bind.

So why does the factory put these large bushings in a stock vehicle when they are aren't ideal for vehicle handling and are certainly expensive and robust units? Because street cars with all spherical bearings would cause an undesirable increase in NVH, which isn't ideal for daily driving to the average consumer. Again, everything is a trade-off.

Our vertical links utilize Delrin to give you the appropriate compromise between performance and comfort. If you are a track-day enthusiast, spherical is the way to go, although if you're looking to keep your S550 as a daily driver, we typically try to stay away from spherical bearings. Who knows, we may end up making a spherical option in the future for our track-oriented customers.

Good post David. I am sure you will join the club. ;)

Here is a shot of our soon to be released Delrin versions. $159.95.

I will have some Delrin/Bearing shots in a few...and those are $149.95.

Gotta love having the folks from Steeda and BMR being so active on this forum, sharing so much good technical information.

Kudos to you both!!

So is one side a bearing and the otherside Delrin or do both connections have bearings cushioned by Delrin?
The lower side that mounts to the RLCA will be Delrin, and the Top side that mounts to the knuckle will be bearing.

But like I stated previously, you can use any combination you choose with our new design.

subscribing..I have run them all in my race car(not a mustang) and if the engine is
loud enough all the NVH goes out the window cause you wont hear or feel it anyways :)
