So if these descriptions of low 1:30 second/90 second Laguna Seca lap times are substantiated, what kind of damage control are the Camaro faithful going to be forced to do?

I mean, when a fully-loaded 2015 Mustang GT with the PP was pitted against the best handling, track specific Camaro not called a z/28 (i.e. 2014 SS w/1LE package), and when it ran 1.5 seconds slower, the Camaro guys treated it like it was a beat-down of epic proportions.

Now we have the GT350R looking like it is able to lap LS 6 to 7 seconds faster than the z/28 driven by Randy Probst did. If the GT/PP vs SS/1LE margin was a beat-down, this would have to be a trashing of apocalyptic proportions!

Armageddon!

Hopefully those times are accurate. The competition between American brands is beautiful. As many here keep saying the gt350 will outperform the Z28 for sure. That is until the gen 6 version comes out. It will go on like this forever. This is why these cars continuously get better and better. Again, and I can't say it enough, competition is beautiful.

You are right, it will be Armageddon. Hell might freeze over, too.

I cannot wait to get some official times on this car!!

Well it is still gen5 vs gen6, so i would wait and see what an lt4 powered or track equipped next gen zl1/28 will do before trashing the z28.

The biggest reason the gtpp was trashed was due to being compared to an old gen already existed, ancient track ready camaro ss. I m sure mustang community will give the same reaction if a s197 was faster than the 1le in any of the reviews.

I'm sorry, is there actually a lt4/track equipped next Gen zL1/z28 in existence? No? Then despite the generational differences, we'll just go on comparing the GT350R with the best track Camaro GM has to offer at this point. If that makes people all butt-hurt, too bad!

Maybe I should just repeat the Camaro faithful mantra. If a next Gen z/28 (or whatever they call their next track-oriented Camaro) does not beat the GT350R, and MSRP the same or less, then it would be an EPIC failure on GM's part. As Chevy has shown throughout the decades, it's always easier to hit a known target than it is to engineer a car that anticipates the competitions next generation.

Naw they already have their excuses together and ready to go. Ford should be able to beat the old technology of the Z28 because they had time to prepare!. The fact that the GTPP didn't beat the 1lE in the handling department was such a big deal to them is because that's all they have to hang their hats on. To 95% of everyone that owns a regular SS or GT you hear nothing but crickets from the Camaro5 faithful. The Mustang did everything else better. We'll see how the 6th gen SS does? What really matters is sales. We'll see how the GT350R sells. I bet it'll be a hard sell just like the Z28 was because there just isn't that many track rats willing to spend big money to ride around a road course and wear out their million dollar tires.

They do have a point though right? The engine in the Z is 10 years old. The chassis is extremely dated too. That does not take anything from the new 350R, its going to be all around better than the Z. But it should. Just like the new GTPP should have been faster than the old 1LE.

But why? Looks like Ford knows what it is doing based on sales and all the happy customers. How many 1LE's were made a year? 2200-2300?

Actually, what the folks on C5 and C6 are *mostly* doing is praising the car. The Camaro could cure cancer by merely sitting in it, and a few of the people in this thread would still hate on it.

Wait until the new SS turns out to be faster

than the 16 GT/PP. I'm betting that it will be, or Chevy is plain stupid. I also believe Ford will respond with a faster 17.' That is how it works.

Why should it have been faster? Because some people thought it should? I mean, the SS with the 1LE package was specifically engineered to provide optimal track performance while sacrificing ride quality. The 2015 Mustang is/was engineered to provide all-around performance and comfort and the Performance Pack was NEVER touted as something that would turn the car into a track beast. No, they built a Mustang that would sell to a large cross-section of buyers, not a small niche group of customers.

Now, Camaro owners who opted for the 1LE package will tell you the ride is "not that harsh" or "nothing I cannot live with",but again, these are likely performance oriented customers anyway who probably modded their previous cars with stiffer springs, upgraded suspension, etc., so the ride would be normal to them.

Yes, the SS w/1LE package is built in the Zeta platform and toward the end of its lifecycle while the S550 is a new chassis, but other than bragging rights, there is not any shame in the 2015 GT/PP having come up short in that particular comparison. I mean, it was a difference of 1.5 seconds around Willow Springs. 0-60 and quarter-mile performance between the two was virtually identical despite the Camaro's better gearing and wider footprint.

Camaro SS = 15 - Mustang GT PP
Camaro SS 1 LE = Mustang GT 350
Camaro z28 = Mustang GT350r

I dont think the camaro guys are comparing apples to apples. By my calculation, mustang wins on all levels.

GT350 in any trim should not be compared to any SS trim level Camaro, IMO.

I, it's always easier to hit a known target than it is to engineer a car that anticipates the competitions next generation.
And that is why you will NEVER see car companies release "upgrades" or new platform at the same model year. they will always be leap frogging each other.
