the BMW M4 has 425hp/406tq, which is nearly the same as the mustang. It weighs 200 pounds less which is substantial, but here's the kicker. It runs a 12.0-12.2 @ 117+mph. Almost every mustang GT review I've ever seen has managed a 12.8-13.0 from the mustang. Where is that .6-.8 seconds disappearing from? The 200 pounds of weight can't account for all of it.
When discussing just hp/tq and weight, you should be paying more attention to trap speed rather than 1/4 mile time.

I haven't looked up the M4's trap speed, but if its 117mph and I'm pretty sure the S550's are 113ish, then the 200 pound difference would account for most of that difference.

This.

And a +4 mph trap speed is huge.

Maybe bench racing is and has always been a kind of masturbation, just a little.

The facts were all advertised quoted.

My bench racing point of view aka opinion still stands as will all the rest in here despite multiple push backs.

The coyote 5.0 has been around since 2010 and is a proven runner in stock form if one knows how to drive. Stop light to stoplight would be close as they both have similar 0-60 times but GT would walk in a roll or 1/4 mile situation.
The stock 11-15 GT stang stock on stock tires is capable of 12.6-13.2@ 108-115, depending on air, track prep and driver skill...
Going by the sotp aka butt dyno(prob what your son is doing)these cars don't ''feel'' nearly as quick as they actually are...
There is a lot more skill going from a dig (stoplight to stoplight). Go from a roll to show the true power to weight comparison...

e.g.

You'd think the M5 (a low 12 sec 115+mph car)would suck the doors off the 15'gt but in actuality was quite close...
Actually not so much. It feels quick now with the mods as opposed to the stock setup. Now it pulls hard through the gears and gets to redline in a hurry. In 2 weeks it goes in for the next phase of mods and a tune (in signature) at which time I'll have approximately invested the base price of an M4 in it. I'm not a street racer but I wont have many concerns from an M3 or M4 unless they've also had substantial mods.
I also think that's the M5 series that MT and Car and Driver liked to make fun of for being "not up to M standards".

Lol. Substantial mods? You did see the post above of a bone stock M3 with a tank of 103 octane.

Just out of curiosity and in all seriousness, at what mod level/power level would an F8X M start to worry you or you'd feel challenged by at your mod level?

And I know you'd wipe the floor with my stock S550. That Roush set-up looks stout.

I personally like the m3 more than the m4.

Anything that hauls that much ass and has 4 doors is very appealing.

I owned a 2009 135i and the motor in that little sucker was a blast. It was an auto and with mods it was very quick and consistent. The turbo inline 6 motors from bmw are no joke. The main advantage is instant torque and the linear power delivery of the inline 6 motor. Any newer performance car with an automatic will be faster than it's manual counterpart. Dct or not.

Don't know? Just know the stock S550 is a poor matchup. Mine will stay around 600RWHP and is in no way setup for the drag strip but with a decent launch it should be in the 11's somewhere. So I guess to answer your question by crank HP apparently my 680 or so is equal to BMW's 425. So this has become true bench racing, how do the two cars run similar times given the HP disparity? How much does BMW under rate? Does 103 octane add 200HP? Bench racing is fun:headbonk:
All that being said I love the Bimmer 6cyl.

I don't think its a poor matchup, there's a guy on this site that's trapped almost 117 bone stock so thats close enough on the street with a good drag radial as long as the bimmer guy isn't rolling around with 10 bucks a gallon tank of gas.

Yea. Shouldn't have said poor matchup, just think the M3's going to consistently win that race. The guy trapping at 117 obviously is driving it well and hard. The M3 should win given the cost of one. They're very nice cars that do everything well and really reside in two different categories. But you can buy a base GT for 30k and specialize with the 50k difference between the two for drag strips or track days and have something that's really good at its purpose.
