Is Navigation worth it? (ready to order car)

I am ready to order a 2016 ASAP, and so I am nailing down my last few option choices.

Some folks say Nav is

• a must-have
• overpriced
• will steadily become obsolete
• requires subscription
• is safer and more convenient than traditional GPS unit
• etc

Personally, I think

• I like the large screen, and voice activation
• $800 is a bit much
• I would be disappointed if it becomes obsolete in any way

I would really appreciate hearing from Nav owners about their satisfaction/disappointment with it.

Ideally, I would like to add it after owning the car, but that does not seem to be either possible, or practical, or affordable.

I don't want this $800 dilemma to hold up my order.

You need to upgrade the maps every year or two. I'd say if you have the extra cash for it then why not. If you're looking to save a buck here and there any smart phone will work as well for free. I have it and it's nice but is pricey.

It is overpriced for sure but there is no reason for an 8" touch screen if you don't have it. I find it a hell of a lot more convenient than using a phone or standalone unit.

The maps are on an SD card so if you feel you need an update its as simple as swapping in a new card. I have a couple of stand alone Tom Tom's that are about 7 years old. I take one on business trips all over the country and have not found them to be out dated. Really the only updates would be for new housing developments, main roads are not changing.

There is no subscription. There is for SYNC Services but it really provides no service.

I ordered a 2016 and decided to forego the $800 Nav option. I really wanted it but I couldn't think of a situation where the signal from my phone would be so bad that android auto with Google maps wouldn't do the trick. Adding ford's Nav would have put the car above my 40k budget. In this day and age $800 for Nav is ridiculous; shouldn't be more than $300.

Edit: also we should have the option of just buying a Nav SD card directly from Ford or our dealer after the fact.

Yes it is overpriced, but I still wanted and bought it on my. Really nice if you take any trips in it.

It will need updates....It is pricey for what you get....And a windshield mount gps will be easier to see, while driving.....

Ultimately your money...your car.....your choice....

I love my Nav, I find it to be easier and a lot more convenient than using my phone for Nav. I prefer the 8 inch touch screen to the smaller screen with all of the buttons, to me it's a cleaner look. I also like the weather and traffic features. Personally I don't think $800 is too pricey but that's just my opinion. I actually use it more than I thought I would.

Yep, ordered it!! Not spendy in the grand scheme of things! Had Navi in the Beemer for 4 yrs. very nice feature!! I say get it..... You will regret it if you don't!! Hell, guys buy tires and wheels for 4-5 grand, exhaust systems...etc..etc! Do it !,

I ordered it with my GT. My biggest issue with my phone was every time I got a call or a text I would lose my turn by turn nav. I still had the map but not the directions. You're buying a $40,000 car, yes I agree it's pricy but worth it.

To me it just seems foolish to have a big color screen WITHOUT nav. I can't even believe Ford offers it that way...

Not worth it. Every vehicle I have ever had that had NAV, I always ended up using my cellphone. It's just so much easier, quicker, and BETTER.

It's funny, I'm not appreciating the NAV as much as I'm appreciating SIRIUS Link. Nice to have the weather on the heads up display coming into the rainy season in FL.

I use Waze on my phone for NAV, so I'm not relying on the turn by turn but the extra bells and whistles that have come with it I've got more use out of than I thought I would of... not sure if it's worth $800 yet.

i'm in real estate so 100% worth it to me. I can't be on the phone and trying to listen to directions at same time so I had to have nav.

We use Google Maps on our iPhone. Works fine and you don't have to worry about updating the NAV. We have a NAV in our Lexus but updates are several hundred dollars so we don't use it much.

I'm not a fan of mounting my cell phone to my windshield with wires running all over the place, so I go with built in navigation. For me it's all about the clean integration.
