That depends on what end of the car you are listening from. BIG Turbo 4 cylinders from the front with that whistle is a beautiful sound.
I know all too well the sound of a boosted 4 banger. Love my 1990 Eclipse GSX back in the day. Low 11second car... but reliability sucked with the drivetrain. I still prefer the sound of V8's over that boosted sound anyday. Not to mention I plan on going turbo on my Coyote too. :)

I didn't realize the weight made such a difference, the 1LE is supposed to be a bit faster than the GTPP, pretty impressive.
Its not quite as light as my last racecar (somewhat dd) at 260 whp and 2800lbs plus gas, which would destroy the 1LE on track. Although the guy was a friend of mine, and is learning a lot. my username on youtube for vids of the old car.

New eco should eventually be the same power to weight, but just more weight. Goal is 3300 with driver and gas.

Lol, since this is a random rant thread, I used to work at a pool near the shop that built Markos supra, Sound Performance. I was in high school in the guard chair, and I'd see them 2 step, tune and fly down the street in that car and several others. Good times!

This is what I'm talking about. Unless it requires taking the engine apart, most car mods (and for that matter, maintenance) are pretty straight forward. Not to mention there's a youtube video for everything.

There's more to a car than its spec sheet. I would've bought the turbo even if I had the cash to splash on a GT. It's not apples to apples, it's a different animal entirely.

I also agree, cars are probably the worst financial investment a guy could make. Hands down. Every second you own the car its depreciating, and those mods, ha.. unless you part the car out, they're worthless the second you install them. But that always been the point! Money is not the object, this is a hobby. And hobbies are about passion. Pay to play, exactly. If you just want to get return on your dollar, hit the stock market or buy an apartment building.

Personally, I never add up total costs. Because every time I turn a wrench or read an article or meet someone new with the same ride, my life gets better. Every experience makes me a better shadetree mechanic. Every new concept increases my knowledge. Every new person is a new connection and someone to learn from.

Personally, modding has never been about quarter mile times, max possible hp, or least dollars invested. It's about the experience. And punching the throttle, that too. :D
I felt the need to chime in on this subject after reading some of these comments here.

My Ecoboost Mustang is my first car. I've been driving hand-me-downs until the beginning of this year. In high school I was driving around a 1995 Nissan Quest (yes a minivan) with a dented passenger door while all the other spoiled brats were given brand new BMWs and Lexuses. Not me, I'm driving around in my old family minivan. :( In college I drove a 2002 Nissan Sentra and from about 4 years ago until now a 2000 Lexus ES300. Clearly car modifications weren't even on my mind. While I always had an interest in cars and being able to do my own work on them, there was never a reason to start learning. Other obligations came first before even buying a car (school, fiance, etc).

My father isn't a mechanic and was never big into cars. Neither were any immediate family members. None of my buddies are mechanics. I never had the opportunity to learn alongside someone who knew what the hell they were doing.

With that said, I did install the JLT intake and the catch can. Took me longer than it did most of you probably, but that was easy enough. I did not install the catback, nor will I be installing the intercooler. Trust me, I'd love to. I even reached out on the local board to see if there was anyone who was willing to take out the time to help me with the installation of everything and in the process I'd be learning too.

I'm probably one of the younger members here on this forum (I'm 24). I'm still living at home so it's not like I have my own garage to store any tools I'd be buying. Once I get my own place and have my first garage (which won't be until probably another year) then I'll buy the necessary tools and attempt to further my knowledge.

Until then, I'm fine with shelling out a little bit of money to have someone else do it, with limitations. I won't be buying a turbo kit, or building the engine, and paying someone else to do it. If I get that far it'll be my hands doing the work. But I don't think I should be discouraged from throwing on any aftermarket part simply because I can't install it myself.

I'm still learning. Just coming here and reading through this message board helps a lot. A ton of knowledgeable posters here. I agree completely, cars are really nothing but a waste of money especially when you throw more money on top of what it cost to buy the car!

Just wanted to give another perspective on it. I'm not going crazy buying all sorts of parts that I don't know anything about and paying to have them put on. The couple of pieces that I can't realistically install myself I have no problem ponying up some cash to have them installed.

When mustang7g.com arrives, I'll be able to do all of it myself. :ford:

TJP719, post more of your location than just United States, and more members on here would reach out to you. BTW intercooler install is easy, same with catback. Probably easier than the catch cans. Try it and amaze yourself.

Watching the supra from hell video 5 years ago on YouTube changed everything for me!
That video is one of the reasons that I've always wanted a turbo car. I can't get enough of the sound. I'm surprised their camera didn't get sucked into the turbo.

 It's not that I think I'm not capable. I need to get under the car and I don't even have a jack or anything to be able to do that.

You can get some ramps that are pretty cheap at WalMart or similar stores with auto parts.

Just came across them right before you responded suggesting them. Affordable and not much of a hassle to store it seems. Looks like I may give it a shot after all.
