So my Mustang just arrived at the dealer today, but I got a call from the sales manager (who I am friends with) that the front fender and driver's door are rubbing. It was bad enough to rub some paint off and cause a small dent. He's getting the door realigned now. He said I can pick the car up now and bring it back later for them to correct the paint, or wait until they fix it. It's totally up to me.

So it comes down to this,
I really would love to pick up the car now and enjoy it for a few days. Would it be a mistake to pick it up now and bring it back to have the dent and paint fixed? (He's also giving me a GT rental)
Or should I wait even longer and let them fix paint and dent first before picking it up? Toughest part is I've been waiting on a my Mustang since December. I reordered in February.

I'd say if you have the means of transportation, wait. that way you know it's 100% completed before you pick it up and there will be no hassles if you had to come back at a later date.

I fyou just cant live without getting it today, MAKE SURE you write an amendment in the purchase agreement that the panel alignment issues MUST be fixed in a timely manner. If this isnt written down, you could have troubles in the future coming back and getting it fixed under warranty.

Good luck!

I would have them fix it before you pick it up. They will be more apt to get it done in a timely manner before you finalize the deal than if you take it home and try and get it done later.

Just enjoy the GT rental until they fix your paintwork.

Did you really think that these QC problems really bother Ford? 4,000 cars on hold for 2 months and not a peep out of Flat Rock. Besides, when you do find misalignments, etc. do you yell at Ford or your independent dealership? Ford makes most of the profit and the dealers get the complaints.

Thanks for your input guys. Looks like I would be best off just waiting to sign the papers until it's fixed... I think I'm going to take a trip over there to take a look at it and maybe test drive it tonight.

I can't believe it's a brand new car for 41k and it needs to be painted already. :frusty: This is really disappointing! Should I even accept the car? It would be nearly impossible for me to give it up seeing as I've been waiting since December.

He caught the problem immediately when they were looking at it. He told me it's good they saw it as soon as they did because now Ford has to pay for it and not them. Claim is already submitted.

Damn-it, I thought Flatrock worked through these issues when they shut the line down a couple of months ago. A build date of 3/17 and still the same schitt?

Mr. Alan Mulally I worked for you (Quality Assurance) when you were at that "other" company, I know you didn't put up with this crap back then so why is this being allowed to continuing on now for so long?

EDIT: M. Fields for Mulally

Still sad to see QC issues with panel alignment this late in the game, its almost 16MY time.

Good for you as well. I definitely would wait to see that the repair was done correctly and is not noticeable. Good to see you have some willpower to wait it out.
