Without modifications they will have carbon build-up issues. It might be improved, but every DI engine has this issue from every manufacturer. It's just the nature of the configuration and the physics. The misfire issues from the 2011 F-150 will have largely been taken care of via calibration and active grille shutters (don't get rid of these when you swap ICs!!).This 2.3 EcoBoost is a totally new engine form the previous Ecoboost engines i know from reading articals ive read they really designed it as an upgrade and improving any issues the older ecoboost engines may have had.. If they do start having problems with carbon building up on the valves it would be a good idea to get a meth injection system installed as they do a good job of taking care of that and greatly improving performance and cooling at the same time!
