This 2.3 EcoBoost is a totally new engine form the previous Ecoboost engines i know from reading articals ive read they really designed it as an upgrade and improving any issues the older ecoboost engines may have had.. If they do start having problems with carbon building up on the valves it would be a good idea to get a meth injection system installed as they do a good job of taking care of that and greatly improving performance and cooling at the same time!
Without modifications they will have carbon build-up issues. It might be improved, but every DI engine has this issue from every manufacturer. It's just the nature of the configuration and the physics. The misfire issues from the 2011 F-150 will have largely been taken care of via calibration and active grille shutters (don't get rid of these when you swap ICs!!).

Well word of mouth advised me against ecoboost when I was shopping as well as articles like this when I google ecoboost:

http://www.consumerclasslawyersblog.com/2014/09/09/ford-ecoboost/
http://***************.com/1083/study-finds-increasing-problems-4-cylinder-engines

When saying reliability I include maintenance as well maybe that's wrong.
Totally different engine.. But thanks ill steer clear of a f-150 even tho i know many people with them with that Ecoboost engine in it and have zero problems... But just incase..

Like i said no big deal.. Just something to keep an eye on. IF its a real issue down the road nothing a $400 meth system wont cure.. if i decide to go for monster power in this car im probably going to install one anyway..

Well that's what I mean you can find a good amount of issues of the eco platform. But I mostly meant what Bmac touched upon as far as maintenance and longevity of the engine. Reliability to me is going to shop less often and for less money. : )

I'm leaving mine bone stock with at most a Ford racing tune down the road. I'd be shocked to have anything more than routine maintenance up to 100k. By then it's likely going to be money well spent as I'd have the car for many years or I won't even own it.

Honestly I hope that's the case for you. For the extremely similar performance I just wanted the peace of mind that very likely that will be the case for me, too. : )

You said for EXTREMELY similar performance you got the v6 for reliability peace of mind. while responding to someone who said there getting a tune. Can you get 100 ft lbs of torque from just a tune with your 6? On top of the 40lbs your down stock already? Im guessing 30 ft lbs torque tops..

For fuck's sake give it a rest, man. I said I'm not interested in tunes. I'm pretty sure the OP said that as well. I'm done with you.

The new generation of EcoBoost engines have both port fueling and direct injection. That'll solve the carbon issues.

The 2.3L in the Mustang does not. Agreed that it'll be solved once that happens.

That is the new 600hp EB6 in the Ford Raptor and GT. The current line up of EBs only have DI. Maybe in 2017-2018 the EB4 will get this tech.

That's what I was referring to. I'm aware that the 2.3 doesn't, but the new generation, starting with the new 3.5EB, will have it moving forward.

Nice! That's actually a surprisingly fun car to drive, for what it is. Makes a nicer noise than the 1.6L NA engine too.
