So they want to burn out fuel pumps out faster? Let me guess, we get stuck footing the bill when that chicken comes home to roost.
I don’t think it would be a big difference there. The pump runs 65-80 psi all the time so making that 75-80 or just 80 is within the design envelope. It’s just a bandaid fix, if I’m right.

I’ve got an appointment to have my Mach 1 reflashed Friday. I’ll just replace the fuel pump with a DW400 later. This has to be another calibration bandaid.

But this is very similar to how Ford tried to address cam phaser issues on the gen 2 3.5 Ecoboost in the F150’s. They had a reflash to extend cranking time before the truck would fire in order to build oil pressure faster. This was basically to get them just out of warranty. Mine, with the reflash failed at 88k on a well maintained truck. This isn’t much different than GM’s bandaid of oil weight and filler cap on the 6.2’s to get a mechanical defect to limp by long enough.

According to google, software update allows pcm to detect failing fuel pump,
triggers a limp mode so car doesn’t stall, as well as a check engine light.
Pump module would then have to be replaced by dealer.

Don’t wait too long before you take action, because a factory pump failure can happen at any moment.

I got caught completely off guard with no warning at all at one of the busiest intersections in town. Cost me $200 to get towed 14 miles. I did exactly what you’re going to do (install a DW400) after that failure and never had another issue. I did install a DW check valve in mine too, as my DW400 was one of the pre check valve versions.

I’m getting reflashed on Thursday, haven’t had any issues yet.

Yeah the sudden failure worries me thanks for sharing your experience-that’s enough to make me go ahead and order one. I’d hate for it to leave me stranded or ruin a track weekend. I assume they all have check valves now? This is what I was planning to order:

I believe all DW400s come with check valves installed in them ever since 2019. I ordered mine from a vendor that must have had the old version sitting on their shelf.

I just ordered the pump only and modified my factory basket for fitment. You can save about $300 going that route.

Instead of fixing the risk with an actual recall to replace defective hardware, Ford has resorted to using a software update to monitor for imminent failure and throwing the car in limp mode as the faulure ocurrs. Gee, what wonderful technology to have sensitive enough sensor and software technology to shut down the car just as it is failing instead of fixing the hardware to begin with. look at Ford's mony-saving approach to addressing engine failures on their Hybrid Maverick recall. Ford can gloat all they want about their recent J.D. Power award and stock value but it doesn't help their customers when they lead the industry in recalls and warranty costs. Where's your Corporate Integrity Mr. Ford?

I didnt see any mention about an extension of the warranty for this.
I’m assuming if it dies past the existing warranty period, it’s customer pay.

I took care of mine on my own (about 45 min. to an hour’s worth of work). What this sounds like is, it’s up to the end user to get proactive rather than reactive and save themselves.

Not sure what good a software update can do for anyone. When mine failed, it didn’t go into “limp mode”, it immediately went into “no go mode” without any warning and wouldn’t fire at all (with just 7K miles on the car). To be totally transparent, I was on E85 at the time and running a JMS BAP (which doesn’t boost voltage to the pump constantly like other brands), so I don’t know whether or not that was a contributing factor. I knew right away that the pump had failed because I checked the DTC on my nGauge.

Here’s a quick video that I just threw together to show what a repair and/or replacement fuel setup can look like. FYI, replacing the fuel line is optional, but in my case, I had a ruptured factory line above the driver’s side fuel saddle, so I decided to change out my line.

Note: Disregard the breaks in the line, I cut it in two spots when I removed it from the car to go with a return style fuel system, but it can very easily be put back into service with two straight male barbs and four ear clamps (much better than worm clamps and won’t loosen) if I need to revert back to it for some reason.

Well, just had my update done today via Ford mobile service. Haven't driven it yet. We’ll see if I perceive any difference….
