Looking at C8 Corvettes, and I just... can't... Is it just me or do others view them the same?

If GM designs a new Camaro, they should plan to put their best engines in it.

I'd be fine if they tune the LT5 down to 650 HP or so.
At what trim level? Z28 or ZL1 I can see 650hp. At the SS level, not a chance. I’d guess more around 500hp. Still pretty livable on a daily basis at that power level for the majority of buyers. Your buyer pool for the SS would thin out pretty quickly at 650hp in a RWD muscle car. Just my opinion though

Problem is the Dark Horse is getting ever closer to Corvette prices. And while the Corvette may have a somewhat ugly rear end, the S650 has a somewhat ugly front end. Given the choice between a Corvette and Mustang at similar prices, I am going to lean towards the Corvette.

You can't really compare new cars to old cars because, yeah used cars are always going to be cheaper. And modded cars to stock cars. Because everybody always continently forgets the labor cost of the mods and the lack of warranty.

History says I likely won't fit in a Corvette, although the headroom spec says it has a bit more than the Mustang.

I can't say I am excited about anything at current prices. But if enthusiasts stop buying cars soon we will have only EV's and Truck being made. We are already closer to this than I like.

Stuff I am currently watching and doing occasional price checks on:
Supra (blah looking - this year made be its last, "Final Edition" being sold)
Z (non NISMO cars too soft suspension, NISMO is pricey - improvements due for 27)
Corvette (pricey - top performer. Grand Sport and new base motor for 27 [realistically the Z51 is the top of my price range)
Dark Horse (blah looking, numb steering)
M2 (blah looking, numb steering - new CS is much faster, but also much more expensive)

Maybe the new Camaro rumored for late 27 will break the log jam?

I keep getting suckered in by $30,000 off Z-06 adds, videos, etc. Only to find out these are slightly used cars, and that they had ALL the options and were thus $180K new, so even at $30K off they are still way above what I am willing to pay for a car (if I will even fit).

Oh I forgot, Caddy CT-4 Blackwing (impossible to find without expensive options, nowhere near the aftermarket of the others).

I don't like the C8, at all, it is ugly, imo. C6 is where it's at for me, I wouldn't mind getting one down the road, I could even do the C7.

To me corvettes are very similar to mustangs in that from a visual perspective I don't think they really peake or get super dialed in till you get to the upper trims. Mustang s550 to me would be (m1, gt350, 500,) where the money kicks in and you get wider bodies, nicer rims, lower stance, etc etc this is of course subjective but my own opinion.

Corvettes to me start to shine when start with z06 and go up. It surprises me to see these comments and I really question that if you look at a new zo6, zr1 that you don't see a bad bitch of a car.

I get it with the stingray it looks watered down/held back in the same way i think an eco boost looks watered down/held back which is obviously done on purpose.

to each their own i guess

So here I am on a Saturday evening looking at cars for sale on Carfax. Hard to believe the GT350 ceased being built 6 years ago! GT500 4 years ago. Mach 1, 3 years ago.... I'm still not on board with the Dark Horse. So, I started looking at '24-'26 C8 Corvettes... No doubt the Corvettes perform. But I just can't get into the design. I just can't. Am I biased? No, it's just that I don't like how they look. So, I have two questions:

1) Is it just me?

2) If folks are looking for a performance vehicle, that is not a Mustang due to aging last Gen models, or the new Gen because of the tablet dash screens, what do you think they are buying?

I'm just throwing this out there. Kind of a pretend we are having a few Scotches and chewing the fat on all thing's cars.
No, you are not the only one. Perhaps I am too traditionally minded, but I would look at a Corvette C7 first rather than the C8. My opinion, of course.

I’ll add to your DH numb steering comment that the C8 Z51 is equally numb. I’ve heard this is not an issue with the C8 Z’s and would assume it won’t be an issue with the new GS. But the base C8 with and without Z51 is pretty numb feeling.

I also fit better in a C6 and C7 than I do in a C8 oddly enough. The C8 feels very confined relative to the C6/C7. At least to me.

I’m with you. Unless it’s a C8 Z06 or higher end trims. They look cheap to me. C7 to me is the pinnacle of corvette. C7 Z06 all day. If I had the loot to blow. I own my Mustang. So, no rush to get into someone else.

No. I feel exactly the same way.

No. I'd much rather have a c6 z06 or zr1. Only problem with that is the interior is pretty outdated compared to my car.
I strongly considered an older Vette to replace my '19 GT. If there was such thing as a C6 Z06 or Grand Sport with a C7 interior, I would have bought it.

I ended up buying an S650. I know, not the most popular option here. 😁(Agree they're overpriced for what they are.) The look has definitely grown on me. If I had a nice Mach 1 or GT350 I would have kept it, but I was ready to part with my S550 GT with it's plethora of rock chips. 🙂

I'm not really familiar enough with Corvettes and I can't tell the difference between trims. They all look the same to me. All pretty good, but the same as each other.

With the S650, I think it's the first time a higher trim (Dark horse with its dark bags under the eyes) looks worse than the base car.

Having owned a C7 Z06, it is a great car. The ones selling on BAT, Cars and Bids are pricy, as they are fetching more used than they cost new (many are in the C8 price range).

I like the C8s. GM definitely gave us a solid performance platform, and I applaud them for that. I think the wide-body really makes a difference for this gen too.

That said, I still prefer the C6, specially the Z06 or ZR1. It’s beautiful from every single angle.

I'm still behind 2018+ Mustang design. But scotch is a good idea.

C7 is classy. I'm still thinking GM should stay with FR design for Corvettes and revive Corvair instead of C8s. Ha. Ha. No I'm serious.
Or, if they must stick with a mid-engine Corvette (like Zora wanted)
maybe GM could remember what Pontiac always wanted to build, that wasn't allowed because it was too much like a Corvette the Corvette design team wanted to plagiarize it.
1964 Pontiac XP-833 banshee 15.webp

Did you ever think the Firebird looked like Pontiac was trying to copy the Corvette?
Well, the Corvette "Mako Shark" body looked a hell of a lot like a 1964 Pontiac Banshee after an eating contest. 🤭

I like the idea of a little sportscar, one size up from a Miata. I liked that idea enough to go to a dealer and look at the Pontiac Solstice, and then I realized the fit of the body panels was terrible, and the windshield header bisected my field of view. 😒
I have a suspicious that ergonomic cluster-flop wasn't what Pontiac really wanted, either.

There's plenty of room to do better. They're welcome to call it a Firebird or whatever.

There are things about the C8 design that I don't care for, but I like the S650 even less and the prices for them are just dumb now. So make my C8 a Grand Sport, assuming I don't fit weirdly in one like I did the C7. One of these days I need to try one on and see if jorts and a pair of new white New Balance tennies are in my future.

(a few buddies would shit if I went to a Corvette, but....)

If I ever get tired and bored with my S550, only then I will get a C8.

My opinion, gm has gone overboard on the design of newer corvettes and even camaros. I admire the performance capabilities but the designs are too cartoonish for me.
