Check your rear end. It might be leaking. :giggle:

During a routine check last year, I noticed Skye's diff was leaking oil. Getting under the car, I confirmed the left side halfshaft seal was failing. Took photos, cleaned the area and left it. I had several things going on at the time, but I also wanted to gauge how bad the problem was.

Over Winter storage, it dripped once or twice. With that, I turned Skye over to the dealer this week.

The Powertrain Warranty is 5 years, 60,000 mi / 96,000 km. The Service Adviser said the seal would be covered under that.

While there, I asked them to service the diff. With break-in era over, I thought it'd be a good practice to remove as much of the crud as possible. I thought better to pay them for the service than DIY. That removes me from the equation if there are any diff-related issues for the next good while.

Halfshaft seal R&R: $0.

Diff Service: $190.

Monday AM: turn in. Mechanic confirmed problem by mid-day.

Tuesday...

Wednesday...

Thursday PM: Car is ready for pickup. While the dealer had the correct seal, there are several one-time fasteners needed; the dealer had to order and wait for those to arrive.

One drive home and another this afternoon, things seem to be fine.

I did pick up a few very light scratches on the side of the rocker aero panel, probably from people not extending their shoes or boots far enough out on exit. One wheel has a short, shallow scratch, probably from the impact gun. The level of blemish for either is something we'll see, being enthusiast. Passersby, probably not. You'd have to point it out to them. I'll work on hiding these later. Everything else though, everywhere I can see, looks as it did when I dropped it off, inside, out and underneath.

If you're in a repair situation that can't wait, you make the best effort possible. If the service can be scheduled, I follow these guidelines:

- Walk-in and discuss the situation with the SA. You never know what's going on or who you'll get on the phone. For clarity, I think face-to-face is best

- Never turn the vehicle in on a Monday, Friday or before a Holiday. These are their busiest days, when who-knows-what comes in

- Schedule a drop-off several days out, so they can pick a date that suits both of you. While it didn't work in this instance, it has past. You could also discuss any needed parts during that initial face-to-face

- If the schedule has been coordinated well on both sides, I advise them they can have the vehicle as long as they like

- At drop-off, photograph the vehicle from all sides and the interior. When the SA saw me do that, he also took a filmed walk-around with his tablet. I appreciated that

- If possible, detail the car before leaving it with them. I think any mechanic coming up to a clean ride is going to treat it better than something that looks like it was detailed last Spring

- Advise them you do not want the car washed, gas or other complimentary services

Edit,

When you do get the car back, check your pressures and re-torque all your lugs. Mechanics typically use an impact gun, not a torque wrench. While they secure the wheel well, sometimes, it's a bit much. I've had a few instances with other vehicles the lugs were on waaaaay to tight. :muscle::curse:

My ATC CH305 8.5 X 24 is 83” between inside fenders. That is a 8” difference so my car is super tight but doable.

Took the cover off and drove it for the first time since Thanksgiving woo hoo! Sat 3 months with no battery tender and it fired right up. Holy cow the looks I got driving it nice and clean among all the salt crusted dailys.

This happened to my car as well. Both rear axle seals had to be replaced. My dash cam was running during the test drive after the repair. And I overheard that they just hit all the bushings with an impact while the car was in the air. No torque wrench.....smh

I'd think that after loosening up all the bushings for the suspension, you'd need an alignment, but the dealer said no...
It's hard to trust folks nowadays.

Installed Ceramic brake pads today, so I don't dust out my new wheels while driving , I didn't do rotors , I'm rolling the dice 🎲 . I stopped by the local shop and asked the older Tech (I've talked to him before ) , if I should bed the brakes the same as w new rotors , he said no . So I drove around and did what he told me to do .

Interested to see what you think of the pads. I have considered getting ceramics myself. The factory pads do make SOOO much dust. You can wash, then go around the block to dry them off and they are dusty again ;) I do love the stopping power though, I use it once in a while when I drive "spirited", really like the feel and performance.

I’ve been using Powerstop Z26 ceramics for a couple years and there’s much less dust. Performance isn’t any better but definitely helps with cleaning.

Same as Mikes running , Powerstop Z26 , the Tech I stopped to talk to , about bedding, said the way I drive I won't feel the difference.

Deciding if I want to swap to the 350R steering wheel and Ford Performance door sill plates, or leave things as they are. What do you guys think? Would lose my color with the sill plates obviously, but don’t see any downsides to the wheel. I think it would be cool to have an alcantara wheel and the Ford Performance sill plates as to share DNA with the other FP vehicles.

This happened to my car as well.
I have similar concerns.

The mechanic noted on the ticket how they used a dye to trace and confirm the leak and later do the repair and service. All read good, without one word of an alignment. I can tell they worked on the one wheel. The others were not touched.

I'd read a few posts of the seals failing, so when I saw it I wasn't too surprised. But I did hate having to turn it in for that.

The same family owns both dealer locations in my city. The first I went to, everything about it told me not to go there. No parking, vehicles piled everywhere, numerous areas where the car would bottom out with someone not paying attention. It took just a few moments of sitting in the lot to have me turn around and leave.

The second location was what most would expect. Service Advisor seemed cool. The mechanic was the one who most often worked on Mustangs. No drama in the service area or inside the facility.

For now, everything seems to be fine. If I find something awry, I'll post an update.

Lose the heated function? Well mine has heat anyway, not that I use it much..

I have both as well as FP floor mats (right before they got discontinued). Can get you pics of the sills if you want

That’s the only thing, I’d lose the my color on the sills and the heated function. Though I don’t really care about the heated function as my car is summer only.
