Good day to all!
I'm reaching out for some constructive feedback and advice.
the situation: 2017 ecoboost (base). Upgrading front calipers to 4 cylinders and installing new Steeda braided hoses ((These are the new hoses)

The driver side hose screwed just fine to the factory hard line.

The passenger side. oh the passenger side. what a time consuming PITA!

I can turn the Steeda hose about 5 turns by hand then it stops. I am VERY concerned of cross threading the factory nut.

what's interesting is that I can take the original 2 caliper factory hose and thread it by hand all the way in.

Has anyone else had this issue. Maybe I just need to power through it by cranking it up with the flare wrench. Just don't want to deal with having to take the car on a tow truck to get the line replaced (if I screw it up)

Common issue. The fix is to get a nut from a hardware store, thread that all the way on, then off, a few times, to clean up the threads on the car. *I think* the nut you need to buy is an M10x1.0, but search around and confirm.

It's a super common problem anyone who has replaced the line has had to deal with. Sometimes all 4 are bad, sometimes just one.

Go to the hardware store and buy a 10x1.5mm nut and thread it on the line fitting. Whoever tightened the lines at Ford had a habit of over torquing them. It distorts the thread and the only line that will thread in will be the factory one that matches the stretched threads. Run the nut over the fitting line nut and it will clean up the threads.

If you have any other line from the kit try it. 9 times out of 10 its never the hose.

Thanks. So, just go to Lowe’s or HD and buy a nut. Correct size is 10x1.5mm? Saw another post Mabe saying 10x1.0.
yes so far is not the hose
if this works,. I’ll make my week!

im also changing the rears. My assumption is that I can use that same sized nut in the rears? In case they decide to join the party.

thanks!!

Take a line with you, find the bolt that screws in then buy the matching nut. Its the internet and my memory, trust but verify.

Well your memory is outstanding!
Size is indeed 1.5!

Will work to fix thread tomorrow. I’ll use brake fluid to lubricante as I screw it on.
wish me luck.

Update for y’all.
I was able to get the front line fine with the nut retreating idea.
The first rear line I removed today ( driver) is also strip. Curse Ford!!
The nut is not going to work on this one.
So what choice do I have now?

maybe buy a kit in Amazon

You may be able to stretch the line enough to cut it and re-nut it or buy a line section and splice in a new section, or the lines 'should' still be available from Ford. You can splice in the section you need in a convenient place from the Ford line. You would not be the first one to find them destroyed, and have to replace a line. Just need to match up the correct type of flare, you can compare them at a Parts store which type of bubble flare they used from your existing line, you will need a flaring kit, they all work fine, even the cheap ones.

I’m very handy. But I’m Not sure I want to mess with flaring the lines. I’ll try to run it through a thread chaser first. Then may need to get someone with better skills to help me.
I mean the brake job looks awesome and is very detailed so far. Even replaced the hub. Just these dang brake lines.

hello again. Update and a few more questions.
I decided to flair myself. Titan has an easy to use tool.
I bought 3/16” flare coupler and line (just in case). Also bought new M10 x 1.5mm 3/16 from brake connect.com.
Issue now is that new fittings: Coupler new flair nuts will NOT go over stock ford line.
it appears to have a black coating over the line.
Either I need to takeout the coating.
or
This is a 1/4” fitting. But 2017 mustangs came with 3/16” lines. From all I read.
Anyone have experience with this?

thanks in advance.

They make several different fittings with the same thread for different line OD.

The hard line actually measures 5mm
IMG_3693.webp
diameter I cannot find anything that meets those apexes. The Male M10 x 1.5mm I see are all 3/16. Very frustrating. I’ll call the dealer to see if I can find the whole line. But finding it online.

Thanks.
