Manual oil/grease

I have a 2020 PP1, I'm over 70k miles and would like to do replace my gearbox oil grease. I hav seen most people like MOTUL or BG synchro shift. My local shop uses valvonline...being that I cannot do my own maintenance right now I have to take it to the shop...Question is, do I go with the Valvoline or take my own? They use the oil that I take, still charge the same amount for the oil change though. I am due an oil change so I wanted to get the gearbox done as well...whats the general consensus?

probably doesn t matter. I did my own and used BG fluid. No issues at all (before/after). I used that one from recommendations on here and it comes pre measured and great pump/bottle all for DIYers.

I haven't used valvoline in the mustang but just used it in my civic si. Its tranny is way more prone to nibbles, grinds and popping out than my mt82 but it has been real smooth with the valvoline so far.

what I ordered was just about the correct refill amount (BG). I wouldn't t worry about multiples uses. Not something people change very often and deff not enough for 2 changes. They may offer different amounts IDK but I went with the one time amount.

I run Amsoil DCT in my MT-82. Big improvement in shifting smoothness. I should have switched on day 1 to be honest. Huge improvement in my Gearbox in my opinion.

I used the Amsoil fluid in my Tremec, it works really well.

I have seen most people like MOTUL

Motul Multi-DCTF or the recently released Motul Gear Power FE.
Easy to source through Summit Racing or if your shop purchases from WorldPac auto parts.
Other choices, Pentosin, Ravenol, Redline, Amsoil, but Motul is at the top of the list IMO.

I have 43K on my MT-82. I have used the BG synchroshift and am now using Red Line MTL-LV. The Red Line is a relatively new addition that meets the Ford spec for the MT82. It is the only Red line product that does I believe. Their DCT did not when I checked previously. I like the Red line better the the BG. Huge fan of Red line since my M3 transmission went over 207K miles with about 1800 autocross runs.

Hello; Not thinking it makes a great deal of difference if the gear oil meets mfg. specs. That said I have used the Valvoline synthetic in my 25-year-old Sentra SE with a manual trans. I have tended to replace the trans gear oil around 40 to 50K mile intervals.
Last two or three changes with the Valvoline. Most recent when I had a half shaft out. The Valvoline does seem to allow smoother shifts from cold than what I used a decade and more before.
I have not used the others mentioned for over 15 years so cannot compare.

One of the options I like when I had a manual is being able to pull the shifter and 🫗. If you know the correct fluid amount this will make life a little easier. Also if you dont have a pump this is the best way.

When changing my trans oil is there anything I need to do with the diff? change the grease?

You can't do that on the current manual transmissions like you could in the old days

Hello; I drain and change rear end (differential) fluid at or around 50K miles. Most diffs have a fill hole and a drain hole.
Check the manual for specs on weight. Also check to see if some sort of friction modifier is needed. Limited slip differentials sometimes require a special additive.

I tend to use the newer full synthetic stuff even on older trucks and cars. Probably a waste of money.

Some folks never change the diff fluid and vehicles live. But at the least check it sometimes.
