What lift is that? Seems like you have plenty of room for it. Did it require footings for the pillars?

Today was a little slower as far as progress goes. I only managed to pull the exhaust up to the headers before circling back to the front of the car.

I spent quite a while with a small syringe sucking coolant out of the water pump and heads. I imagine there must have been at least a gallon of coolant extracted. I want there to be little to no coolant in the motor whenever I get around to pulling the heads.

I temporarily installed the turbo support bracket to try and determine whether the turbo drain line would have a sufficient downward path to the timing cover to the area marked with an X.

I also decided this morning that I’m going to delete the AC. It’s just too tight in that area to try and fit the turbo header. I know I’m going to have my fair share of challenges along the way, but this is one that I can easily avoid. I’ll order the tools needed to recover the refrigerant and make it happen.

It’s a Champion TP10F-HD.

No footings for the pillars, I had the entire garage floor poured with 4000 psi concrete at 6ā€ thick.

Florida and no AC? I guess that's not going out on the street much.

I was young once and hacked up an V6 Malibu with factory AC to put in a small block 350 in it. It was a mistake when I was 18. It get hot and humid here in the Baltimore area. I can't imagine not having AC on a car in Florida. I know Adrian isn't going to hack his car up and it will certainly be able to be put back in. That being said, I agree with it being a bridge too far for me. Hell, my next car better have a heated steering wheel. I have gotten to the point where THAT is a deal breaker at my age, lol.

No sir, no hack job at all. I will carefully remove it and store it in the attic, in case I ever change directions with the car and decide to reinstall it. Tbh, the only time I used air in it was when my wife rode with me or on a long trip. I’m in the position to where I have to do what it takes to complete the project.

…you know they have an amazing little invention, I believe it’s called a ā€œmopā€ and it makes pulling the heads a no-brainer 🫠

but the bigger question I have, is why are you pulling the heads to install a turbo? Maybe I should read your parts list 😬

I put a large low profile pan under the car and pull the water pump, then reinstall. Pull pan out and pour into container.

Haha! When I installed the MMR head cooling mod a few years ago, there was a whole lot of coolant that hit the floor. I had coolant trapped underneath my-d cable/hydraulic line tray for the lift and it wasn’t fun cleaning that mess up. If I had the cables running overhead like some lifts, you betcha I would have mopped it right up. I do have a dust mop though 😁

I’’m pulling the heads to install HD springs, retainers and keepers. I also want to see if I can get by with bolting the turbo headers on before the heads are reinstalled. Believe it or not, I’ve been out here in the garage for 13 hours today just removing headers and motor mounts. I’ve managed to remove 14 of the 16 bolts and the last two are arguing with me like they’re crazy or somethin’, lol. Last thing I want to do is strip the heads on them.

This will be fun to follow! I know it will be well documented with pictures! I'm also wondering if it would have been easier just to pull the engine out of the car? Considering you have the lift, you could have pulled it out the bottom and lifted the car in the air. Might be a bit easier working on things that way.

I see you’ve got axles in the part pile. I assume those are upgrades for the power. Are you replacing the driveshaft? What is your plan for the transmission ? I bring this up because my car is 809/611 rear wheel but is capable of much more, I just don’t want to grenade the mt82. I made the mistake of upgrading the driveshaft first and now I’m wanting to get a Tremec magnum xl which will need a different driveshaft. Just something for you to think about for the future. I’ll be watching and rooting for your progress.
